Was anyone cool/hard/old enough to go to this? 12:21 - May 1 with 4232 viewsMrSheen

Looking for a present for my brother's 60th, I came across a reprinted poster for this show.

I was only 12 then so too young to have gone anyway, but I had no idea this had happened, though by the same time a year later I was reading the NME cover to cover. I used to go past the Coliseum on the bus every day to school! Did anyone else here go? I have a memory of a Sham 69 concert there a year or so later being stormed by the infamous Harlesden Teds - seems ludicrous now, but there were loads of them then - ending with the skins getting battered at Neasden tube. Any witnesses? Again, I wasn't invited to that one either. Any Ted memories/confessions welcome too.

I remember wanting to go, but unsurprisingly my parents refused to let a 13yo travel down from Norfolk.

It was a great album from the Clash and I wish I’d seen them live during their prime years.
There was no trouble at Earl’s Court in July 1973 for Slade, although there was a lot of booing for Alex Harvey.

Yes for the Clash. Stepped on Elvis Costello's foot.

Where did this Sham bollox come from? Doubt there were half a dozen Teds in the whole of NW10, let alone Craven Park. While Skins from all over town attended the gig, at least half, maybe two thirds were fairly local. I was with Joe McBride and 100 Stonebridge / Harlesden lads, no one (including West Ham),was going anywhere near them, let alone try it on. After the gig there were issues, a lot of damage and petty thieving, culminating in a Bakerloo line train getting taken out of service.

Poll: Thank God The Seaons Over.

Just rumour my Dad heard, bits and pieces in the local paper. Who was fighting at the station then?
Was there a pub called the Black Horse near Willesden Court? Supposedly a Ted pub by legend. Incidentally, I think pre fame Adam and the Ants played the White Hart in Willesden High Road, which was a bit out of the blue.

Adam played at the White Hart, as did many bands at that time, my fav was a Penetration gig.

I'll reply to your questions another day, effing knackered at the moment. Dug out the flower beds and replaced with 'bedding' soil this afternoon / evening. Lord am I feeling my age

Penetration were great. I remember seeing them a few times but haven't got a clue where as I used to just tag along with my brother and mates. I was only 13.

I saw Penetration at the Nashville circa 77/78.. I had a crush on Pauline Murray.

Finally got a few minutes Mr Sheen.

The Clash gig. Bit of a haze really, though I distinctly remember being surprised that they were playing in Harlesden at a venue I was quite familiar with, my experience of punk up to that point had mainly been down the west end or colleges. To repeat, a rather hazy recollection, they were very loud, was shocked to see the Buzzcocks were on the bill as I have absolutely no recollection of the support barring The Slits, who didn't really interest me but I stood and watched some of the set as the girls were rather interestingly attired. Just one of my mates palled along and we'd consumed a few pints beforehand, which may have contributed to any memory loss. Also remember being surprised how few people I recognized or knew come to that, thought the crowd following them was a lot smaller / tighter, obviously they were on the road to 'stardom'. Was delighted to meet an old school mate. There was no trouble inside or outside the venue, certainly nothing that we noticed.

Sham 69. Completely different. Club was now called The Roxy and again I was surprised and happy that a band I was interested in / following around, would be appearing within such easy reach of my house. I was matey with a lot of north west London lads who were in attendance, our numbers bolstered by a good few up from the Grove, Notting Hill, Harrow Rd etc though looking around at some of the punters we honestly thought there would likely be trouble with other areas, but as mentioned in a previous post, we were heavy in numbers and nothing but shithousery occured, the venom of followers from a more eastern part of town being reserved for Patrick Fitzgerald, leading to Jimmy Pursey coming onstage to calm them down. Good gig I thought, lot of jumping up and down with big pushes like football terracing!
Afterwards, everyone on a high, drink, drugs whatever. Hundreds start walking toward Dollis Hill, vandalism was abundant, don't think any actual violence against individuals or groups occurred but there may have been the odd slap, hard to know in the dark with so many on the move. Got to Dollis Hill Station, bundled onto the train (that branch was still Bakerloo in those days), and proceeded to wreck it. Most impressive was the peeling back of the carriage ceiling, god knows how that got started, but peel it did.
Never heard any report of fighting, certainly anything large scale would have come to our attention in days due to the circles I mixed in.
