Interesting Swans stats 14:02 - Apr 20 with 1864 views | TimBowen | https://footystats.org/clubs/swansea-city-afc-154 For me though, they create a frustrating overview of our season to date. Where, as has been regularly posted, if only we'd won more than four matches in those 22 between the two cardiff matches...(virtually half a season) we could've been facing an exciting Play-Off battle come May. That would have raised our profile yet again. Which in turn could've persuaded, some aspiring talent, torn between clubs, to sign for us during the Summer. Fourth highest scorers in the league, yet only four teams have conceded more and (as perhaps you'd expect) all four are heavily involved in a relegation battle. If our defensive issues had been sorted out (by our 'ex defender' manager) we would surely have been firmly placed in the top six, for most of the season. I feel it's been a massively wasted opportunity.
Interesting Swans stats on 14:44 - Apr 20 with 1803 views | Badlands | Martin's biggest defensive mistakes were not trusting Cabango in the central position and allowing him to play his own game and relying too much on Darling. Wood has improved in recent weeks too and has formed a good understating with CB and, dare I say, Fisher. Add to that Ntcham and Allen speed up the midfield as does Cooper. As said all season … we had the squad we lacked a manger.

Interesting Swans stats on 14:45 - Apr 20 with 1803 views | RichardO | Surely those defensive issues were there two years ago at the start of the season which is why two new inexperienced at championship level but needed defenders were brought in. Our decline from the Premiership was it because of what our great defending? No Getting the balance right? No Potter team scored goals but conceded too many, Cooper almost got it right conceding less goals but to do that given the quality of the defence needed a lot of help from the rest of the team resulting in less goals being scored by us. Could Martin have used his loan players better undoubtedly and should he have been able to get to get better results with the team at his disposal yes as we have seen glimpse of quality but very little positive consistency. Is the Squad in better shape than it was at the start of the season I think so and if we can keep and build a squad of players who really want to play for the club and see progression hopefully we will have a better team next year.

That is possible but only as long as martin finally learns his lessons AND the owners back him enough in the next window. Looking at the way thhings are going this division is likely to be harder next season so we will need to be better just to stand still. get the right players in and play with more pace nd aggression and we could do well.
Interesting Swans stats on 17:51 - Apr 20 with 1711 views | Dr_Parnassus | This season has been a complete waste. Piroe will almost certainly be moving on and same for Manning. It’s going to be tough to replace Piroe and we will look back at the two seasons we had the likes of Obafemi and Piroe up front and think “how on earth did we finish where we did?!!”. The narrative that the players aren’t good enough has been laughable, we have one of the most talented squads in the league. Take away the likes of Burnley, Boro and a couple of others and we should be leading the rest of the pack. We are a play off standard team, we were last season too. 15th and 13th is not good enough BUT last chance saloon for Russ, has he finally (after 4 years of doing the same thing) realised that his way doesn’t work. If we can continue spending as little time passing round the back as possible and actually giving wingers freedom to perform and respect when the come into the club then he may have a chance to salvage his position. Next season should have NO excuses, and none should be accepted or entertained.

Definitely the squad needs strengthening, we lost Manning for the first game against Burnley and we paid the price of a weak squad, the second game we held our own but made three mistakes to allow the first goal( Mannings missed tackle on the halfway line, Cabango not tracking across field with the man with the ball, the eventual shot taker and Fisher letting the shot go through his arms at head height), any one of those not being made and we wouldn't ended up chasing the game so much. Will be an interesting transfer window hopefully we can start the season on the front foot and improve as the season goes on.

Bang on Cabanngo is a real wArrior Most coaches would have built defence around him Like others , he s been misused

A team will go up if they are good enough to win promotion whether they are ready or not. 3 years of parachute payments will soften the blow if relegated.

So even more for people to complain about if that happened, no thanks.

Interesting Swans stats on 19:54 - Apr 20 with 1582 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Piroe has been saying nice things about the club recently. A £1m pay rise will test his metal. £2m extra for two seasons surely makes sense? He is a superb finisher and suited to Swanseas game. He needs a spell on the bench like Obafemi like a hole in his head. Get big money and play every week at 22-23. Just wht the d football doctor ordered, This Swansea team could not get promoted without a whole lot of luck. No point thinking like this. Martin for sure could have got to the sunny uplands a lot earlier like Potter did but he did not have Potter 6 years back ground. There could be another slump around the corner which new wing backs and Benda back will avert.

Going up is a cash injection of at least £150m. If a club spends it wisely and not like Forest, then it can then set them up for a few years in the Prem. I didn't think we were ready last time but we got through and grew from there.

Yep. Even if we came straight back down, if we were smart we could have set ourselves up nicely. But otherwise this season has been a waste. It's both bizarre and amusing that those who spent much of the season pointing out that playing suicidal passes around a three man defence or sending out a midfield lacking anything like decent attacking capability are now deemed somehow "wrong" by special cases because results have improved dramatically since Martin has stopped doing both things. With the squad we have we should be much higher up the table. We're not because Russy spent five months making the same mistakes over and over and over again.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

The “it’s the same style but we are better at it now” mantra, that is trotted out to explain why we start to win is the most lazy and bizarre thing I’ve read on these forums. The old way was by design, straight from the horses mouth. “If we keep the ball for 70 mins, guess what? They will eventually stop running - then we can attack”. That still haunts me to this day and echoes around my mind whenever I see him. It’s a tough one to shake because he genuinely believed it and we spent 18 months+ literally playing with the expectation that it would happen and it was correct. It was painful. There are so many ways in which we have pivoted away from that and it is nothing to do with “just being better at it”. I could show you a dozen data points that show complete technical differences in both set up and system, my fear however is that it will revert back eventually when Martin feels comfortable again. That has been the pattern we have seen over the last 2 season so it’s difficult to trust that this time he has seen the light. Credit of course goes to Russ in the short term for finally making those changes but they really are changes that shouldn’t have needed to be made, they should have been the way from the start. 2 years is a lot of wasted time and energy to only start to realise the obvious. We can’t afford for this to be a managerial training ground though, we can’t accept more wasted years while a manager simply learns the basics. Assuming he is still here next season he needs to rise to the challenge and meet the expectation. It should be the finished product going into year 3, football always evolves year or year in terms of personnel - it’s a transient sport. So I’m not accepting (not that I did anyway) any excuses of “we have new players”. Every team has new players, every team has players leave.

If we wait til we are ready it will never happen. You take your chances in life and in sport. If we'd gone up we could have accepted we'd come straight back don but used the money wisely.
