Yep. At most the vast majority of AM's would be civic councillors, and everyone knows how poorly most local authorities in Wales are run. With a Welsh Parliament their earnings increase, but not their competence.

To b honest I didn't rad the full stoey, as soon as I read that projectin , that was enough! We all know these projections are always vastly undercooked, the true costs are always much higher than stated. The new Velindre hospital, the Head of the valleys roads development just to name two, they both cost a lot, lot more than the original plans and when they are predicting damage to the economy they understate things even more when they want the changes being pushed on you. Conversely, when they are under pressure to do things they don't want, they vastly overstate the costs. It doesn't matter if we are talking about the Senedd or Westminster, the White house or the Bundestag, they all do it. They are politicians, they all lie.

The big boys (LHR,LGW, MAN, BHI etc) have rail links or are 5 mins from a motorway. Other airports are expanding (like Liverpool) to offer an easier alternative to the big boys for EasyJet, Ryanair, Wizz, Play etc or have good hub links (Amsterdam, Frankfurt etc) via KLM or Lufthansa. Perhaps it should be given to one of the more successful airports to make a go of it.

Bristol is a horrible place to get to. Yes, there's a new by pass, but if the bridge is closed or any diversions its a nightmare. Cardiff is simple to get to

There should and maybe there is a business plan for this airport. If the 'directors' can't deliver the plan they should be removed.

The business plan for this place seems to be a sheet of A4 paper with "A CAPITOL NEEDZ A AIRPORT" written on it in big letters. The place was losing money hand over fist before the WAG got involved for no more reason than the above.

There is a reason the big companies don't come to Cardiff IMO it's because the demand isn't there and they won't make any money.

So the issue is generating demand. So a systemic approach is needed, make access easy (transport) and use (parking etc) easy, do some research on destinations, form a strategic alliance with an airline etc. etc. etc. Any strategic planning would probably highlight the Bryn Glas tunnels as an issue. The tunnel 100% is the main problem. Cardiff Airport can not survive on passengers from Cardiff and South West Wales. It needs to generate business from at least a 80-100 mile radius. East of the tunnel would you fly from Cardiff, you may not even catch the flight. Bristol and even Birmingham is more accessible.

Exactly WR, the problem is the roads infrastructure and Drakers won't spend to improve that because it's too environmentally damaging yet he throws millions after millions at the most damaging form of transport there is, where is the logic? Surely it's better to improve our roads so business can thrive in Wales, the economy and so peoples quality of life improves. Having to travel to England for an airport is not hard work, there are more destinations and the fact that so many in South Wales use English airports, it should be a sign that chucking millions at Rhoose is a fools errand.

A great idea but has the senedd have within or the sense to go to outside agencies to obtain decent development plan, and Bryn Glas tunnels is a fine example of how short sighted they are . to increase volume you have to improve the transport links and that means if you want to attract more passengers from across the bridge then they missed a trick by dismissing the much needed road improvement. Drakeford does not have that vision , if so why put us and keep us in lock down earlier and later , Airports work in two ways not only for flying from but into and now with the imposition of a tourism tax there doesn't seem to be any coherent plan for anything in Wales.

Not sure I totally agree if people (me included) travel to Bristol & Birmingham to catch flights it can’t be the roads. Cardiff airport needs to have good flight times at a similar price to both the mentioned airports for people to use it. The need for good roads especially around Newport is certainly needed to attract business in general, ironically anyone travelling to Bristol airport will know it as the amount of businesses going up on the road just off the M4 en route to the airport can see it for themselves.

When I fly from Birmingham I don't go near Newport or the tunnel, flying from Bristol yes, but on my way to the flight the traffic always seems less than coming the other way for some reason. My point was if you lived East of the tunnel you would never use Cardiff Airport. Personally I couldn't see people living in Chepstow or Magor flying from Cardiff let alone further East. Cardiff Airport can't survive on passengers from Cardiff and West Wales alone.

For me it's solely the price, Cardiff flights are always double the price of Bristol etc An extra whst 30/40 minutes in the car to save 100s, would be silly not to.

Wizz Air Pull Out of Cardiff Airport on 07:38 - Jan 12 with 786 views | MrSwerve | Let’s be honest, if you were starting from scratch and looking where to build an airport in South Wales, you’d probably stick it somewhere around the Swansea-Llanelli area. Close enough to still catch customers in Cardiff and more convenient for people in West Wales. Although you would undoubtedly lose some in the Cardiff area to Bristol airport. You could probably sell regional flights easier were it based in Swansea, e.g. people travelling from West Wales to London, Manchester, etc. Unfortunately for Cardiff airport, Bristol airport is simply too close to them, is well run and has a big catchment. That seems to have snowballed over the years.
