Music sung in a language other that English please, the occasional use of an English word in the same manner as some iconic English song throw in an odd French, Italian WHY phrase are acceptable too.
I'll kick it off with Mylene Farmer's tribute to the life and times of QPR fans.

The grass is always greener.

She's the singer of the French band Markize who I saw support Epica in Paris many years ago.

Some not PC lyrics and undertones to this song, but a great cover nonetheless.

They broke up last year and I think they held the record for the longest time a band has stayed together from its original members.

I pretty much only listen to foreign music.

I started listening to music seriously as a teen in the mid-70s, when music was having an identity crisis. Punk was a rebellion against a lot of the bland stuff in the charts, although it wasn't for me. The first thing I related to personally was Elvis Costello, and then the Specials who captured the bleak mood of the times. However, at the same time I always had the feeling that the music of the 60s was more 'grand' than anything around in the mid to late-70s.

Later in life I began to get a bit more open-minded about foreign music. I did Latin dance for a long time (retired about a decade ago), so that was probably the beginning of my ideas changing. I also started listening to Charlie Gillet's show on BBC London, trying to find stuff I hadn't heard before.

Now I listen mostly to Korean and Japanese music of the late 60s/early 70s. One of the appeals of that era (particularly of the Japanese music) is the optimist/euphoric sound. So the appeal is the very opposite of what drew me to music in the 70s, but, as Shakespeare said: 'A man loves the meat in his youth that he cannot endure in his age'. There is also some great music from the same period from France, Italy, Cambodia, Iran and numerous other countries. This is not 'World Music', but commercial music of the time.

So, in terms of geography, my horizons are wide. In terms of time (the late 60s/early 70s) my horizons are narrow. All this is only really possible because of what you can find on YouTube (I have found Spotify isn't that great for East Asian music).

Over the next few weeks I will post foreign music that I like on this thread. Where possible I will try to post videos with English subtitles, or provide a link to an English translation of lyrics from lyricstranslate.com.
