Sadly, SS's Elbow could not be dancing attendance, but/so I am anxious to know if anyone went and what they made of it. I'm also hoping to get a message to Simon if I can to express my interest in editing his autobiography (if he's interested to write one), as I think it could be a fascinating book. Stainrod was/is a true maverick with a devilish streak that complemented his skill wonderfully well, and a virile vehicle of very 'off-message' views about the snowflakery of modern football, the over-protection/-rotation of contemporary players, and the lack of character of modern squads. I also can't think of too many who would talk in an interview about the nuances of the French word 'efficace' to describe that upper echelon of fluid footballing performers. His vision and views are sorely needed.
The guy turned down Venables' Barcelona because the negotiations offended his values! Stained Si, i salute you!

There's a few comments on facebook from people who went. Apparently he went into detail about his row with Mullery after the Partizan debacle and his dislike of Mullery in general. Definitely one of the worst managerial appointments we ever made and even at the time that was obvious. |  | | |

They had a massive row on the plane home from Belgrade, legend has it that Mullery was digging out the younger players for the defeat so Stainrod had been drinking with the qpr fans on the same plane and Stainrod began hurling abuse at the manager, punches were thrown allegedly. I've no idea how true that is but it's a story I've always enjoyed.
