Car advice - 7 seater 21:53 - Aug 24 with 6830 views | Dixie_CT | Due to my efforts to address the reductions of births in the UK, I now need a 7 seater car. I don’t really want a Vauxhall or Ford and have been quite taken with the Chevrolet Orlando. Budget is up-to £6k. Am a car numpty so any advice would be gratefully received 🚗

Car advice - 7 seater on 07:37 - Dec 1 by Dixie_CT | What??? The Queen died? Why didn’t anyone tell me?? Thanks for the feedback PH. Upon reflection I’m going to go away and reflect on why a car and why not another vehicle, like a hovercraft or hot air balloon. After this reflection, I’ll come back for more advice and enter into the penultimate reflective circle process. Also, I finally ran my shitty black Peugeot 207 into car heaven so things have became a bit more pressing. |
RIP shitty black Peugeot 207

I had 6 kids, there was 16 years between the eldest and youngest, if we ever took 6 out together we took 2 cars, never had a need for a 7 seater.

Because it would take up 2 parking spaces, wouldn’t fit down a lot of our roads and I dread to think of the running costs! It was great to drive for 2 weeks and really wasn’t that much more expensive to hire than a “standard” hire car and I thought what the hell it’s probably once in a lifetime!

I've seen them in the States and they're enormous, even dwarfing things like the Q7 which feel too big for our roads

With a 7 seater, the missus can take the kids and you can take a wrong turn and, oh I dunno, go down the pub? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Car advice - 7 seater on 15:09 - Dec 1 with 1725 views | PinnerPaul | My son's the car expert but I had a Zafira from new for donkey's years and although ancient and high mileage when I sold it, it kept going for a good few years afterwards as well (my son told me - you can track the plate, apparently)

Car advice - 7 seater on 16:45 - Aug 25 by OldPedro | We had a Zafira when the kids were younger - it did a good job and was cheap to run. Only downside was whenever my wife was going out with her friends, I always seemed to be the one who would drop them off/pick them up because of all the seats :-) |

Car advice - 7 seater on 19:37 - May 29 with 864 views | BexleyHoop | I can highly recommend a Ford S-Max 2.0TDI. Had to sell mine last year due to Mr Khan's ULEZ, but it gave me great service for 17 years, getting my triplet girls around in comfort - 3 proper seats in the back , with a further two behind that . Huge boot size with the seats down - managed to get a 3 -piece suite in the back! Folding the seats down was easy as really clever mechanism. Engine had plenty of poke and good standard interior
Car advice - 7 seater on 19:47 - May 29 with 848 views | queensparker | Couple of leftfield ones: I recently bought an old school Volvo V70 with the “family pack” from 2003 which means it has the rear facing seats in the boot and in-built booster seats. The kids and their mates love it and if you can find a well-looked after one the Volvos from that era will go on forever. One of the best car buys I’ve ever made: bulletproof, amazing stereo, super comfortable seats, lovely to drive, massive boot. I’m planning to keep it going until they can use it as their first car. Stick a roof box on as well and you could start a removals company. Also look at imported Japanese Nissan Elgrands. Not great on fuel as they have the V6 from the Nissan Skiyline but they’re brilliant cars and there’s a thriving setup of enthusiasts in the UK so easy to get parts etc. The kind of car you get picked up in the VIP section in Asia. Easy to turn into a camper as well.

Ive been intrigued by a Hellfire or the Toyota Alphard. Petrol consumption isn’t a major problem as i tend to only do about 2-3k miles a year as its mainly used at the weekend to do the shopping, kids taxi etc. i may do a long journey a couple of times a year. Does being an import load extra price onto the insurance and are parts easily-ish available?

There’s a thriving load of independent garages for the Alphard / ElGrand so find a local one and parts etc not a problem - a lot of parts are shared with other Nissans and Toyotas as well anyway. I’d highly recommend looking at them as an option they’re brilliant cars and a real bargain, you can get good ones for 6k. Insurance as an import doesn’t seem to be an issue. Lots of places will import one for you if you give them a budget and a spec and then do all the bits that need doing (translate the radio, seal it for rust which the Japanese don’t do) Only caveat is they’re in a bit of a grey area with ULEZ, they’re fine for now but as they don’t have an official EU emissions number who knows if that may change one day.
