tonight on 15:52 - Aug 17 with 610 views | blacky200 | My problem with Dykes is that he doesn't have that strikers instinct. Last night was a classic case. The ball comes to him and instead of putting it away without thinking he thought he was offside and delayed the shot. A strikers instinct would be to put the ball away first and then see if you are offside.

tonight on 15:31 - Aug 17 by Rangers67 | Well lets look at the facts, has he improved since he came here ? Does he score enough goals for the team ? Have you watched his movement in the box or lack of. ? Does he have a good first touch ? For your convienience the answer to all of the above is a resounding no. If running around not producing much and losing possession frequently is the answer we might as well have stuck with Big Matt Smith. Now I am not privy to what goes on in training with the strikers but if Charlie Austin when he was here couldn,t help to improve him I think the writing is on the wall. So we either persist with playing this very limited but big hearted player or maybe try something different, I know what I prefer |
Good points but I still see a player there, for reasons below..... Does he score enough goals for the team ? No, but when fully fit he has had a couple of decent scoring runs which suggests he might Have you watched his movement in the box or lack of ? Improved massively post Austin, even last night when pulling back towards penalty spot to create space to receive that late cut-back from Laird (as Austin would), who unfortunately did'n t read it and drilled it across the box (no blame there) Does he have a good first touch ? If you look at the one he took out of the sky to get his shot off against Boro, his first touch is decent enough imo I still think he will come good and prove to be a key player for us this season, as with Roberts, Willock and Chair, we have enough goals in this team to challenge for the play-offs imo. I'm more concerned about getting a settled formation that suits the players who are fit at any given time, a defensive midfield shape when out of possession and resolving lack of pace in our 2 current CB's by going to a 3 or not.

Austin is the only one of those you would get for £10M!

tonight on 08:43 - Aug 17 by Burnleyhoop | We cannot afford a 20 goals a season striker so need to spread the goal scoring around and everyone must contribute. The team that played last night is still a distance from the team that Beale will eventually field, although I am hoping he reverts to a back 3 again when Salter if fit again as we look too narrow and constantly exposed at the back. I honestly cannot envisage either Dozzell or Johansen making the first eleven when everyone is fit. It is too early to hit the panic button yet. A fully fit squad, playing in the right formation, has enough about to do well in this league. We might not see it until September, but it is coming. Laird and Roberts showed enough last to give hope that the quality is there. Willock returning on Saturday is another piece of the puzzle to slot back in. With the return of Salter and and eventually Richards, and the ongoing development of Armstrong, we will kick on. It was disappointing last night, but we could as easily won the game as lost it. Most games are determined on fine margins and with that little bit of extra quality. With a fully fit team out there, we will have enough more often than not, to make the difference in our favour. Keep the faith. |
Agree with that and Dozzell was a LITTLE better last night I thought?

Fair enough and I take your point about the midfield . If you compare how Blackpool played some nice neat one and two touch stuff aligned to good movement in midfield then it was quite striking ( excuse the pun ) the difference in the two teams for me.

And I think we can do likewise in our midfield when Beale gets Amos + Richards fit and available to play.

The issue I have is that this mythical time where we have all these players fit and firing is usually the start of the season. Things are only going to get more congested as the season goes on and it looks like we have a very injury prone squad. Without being too revisionist, it begs the question why we let Barbet go when he plays consistently every week without injury.... I know he works best as a back three, but JCS cant even get fit ffs. Not every player needs to be sold for 20mil. Just think that was a bit shortsighted. I would cut the losses with Dykes and Bonne (surely there are some takers), Dykes could do a job for Rangers in Scotland surely. Then try and persuade Stevie to loan us Archer- doesnt look like he is getting much action so far.

Yes I'm with you on the mythical fairyland where every player is fit and on form. Never going to happen - anywhere!
