QPR FT REPORT
Luton 1 QPR 2.
How did we win this?
Daylight robbery.
And for once it went our way.
Unbelievable — what else can you say?
At half time it was going to be - let’s forget about the play-offs.
It would make it less painful for the rest of the season.
But somehow we captured all three points and miraculously are now fourth.
It’s just our second win from our last 8 Championship matches.
It ended a run of four successive away League defeats without scoring.
Yes we are still a pale shadow of 2021.
But we won — that’s all that matters. It will surely boost our confidence.
To play so poorly — bouncing back from 1-0 down at HT after a Marshall error — is quite sensational - Cameron Jerome scoring — slipping through Marshall’s hands.
Someone said on the match thread — Marshall — like Joe Lumley — makes impressive saves but then concedes a howler.
But 10 minutes after HT Gray created the penalty and then scored one of the best penalties you’ll ever see — hammering the ball home - leaving the keeper rooted to the spot.
His first penalty in 5 years. It was a cracker.
Then with Amos replacing the very poor Hendrick and Willock substituting for Gray — the extra speed and quality made the difference.
Willock’s corner 7 minutes from time caught the shoulder of Dickie at the near post and somehow it went into the net.
The ref failed to spot Amos in an offside position blocking the keeper.
Sometimes we are lucky after all!
Victory for us ended Luton’s unbeaten home form since the end of November.
So fourth spot for us.
We are 4 points behind 3rd placed Huddersfield with a game in hand.
We’re a point ahead of 5th placed Blackburn — also with a game in hand.
We’re 2 points clear of 6th placed Sheffield United — and we’ve got to play them twice.
And now we’re 2 points clear of 7th placed Luton.
We’re on 59 points from 36 games.
At the same stage last year we were 12th with 49 points.
That’s an improvement of 8 places and 10 more points.
The average points required to make the play-offs is 74.
To get that and more we need at least 15 from our last 10.
Is it possible — definitely.
So those 10 matches left.
Opponents current position in brackets.
Next match on Wednesday
A. Nott. Forest (9)
Followed by
H. Peterboro (24) Sun March 20
H. Fulham (1) Sat April 2
A. Sheff Utd. (6) Tue April 5
A. Preston (13) Sat April 9
A. Huddersfield (3) Fri April 15
H. Derby (23) Mon April 18
A. Stoke (15) Sat April 23
H. Sheff Utd (6) Sat April 30
A. Swansea (16) Sat May 7
And a final note on those QPR fans at Luton.
Well done. Cheering on the team does make a difference.

Another great report GB. Results are all that matter now. I guess we are back on the old "it's the hope that kills you" roller-coaster

I think the fact he interfered with the keeper is the sore point for Luton something that happens across all games pretty much every day.
Lost in all the celebration is the fact it was a superb driven inswinger that caused panic unlike the rest which were outswingers ,which led to breakaways for Luton .
Lets start tomorrow in practice right leg kickers from the left side and left leg ones from the right it will result in many more chances going forward IMO.
Let Willock take our free kicks too with that whip and curve on the ball its going to bag a few goals.

I have spent the last month wishing we would start firing in some in-swingers given our very good aerial presence these days… instead we have pratted about with short corners, out-swingers or Barbet hitting the first man.

Thanks for the input QPR Oslo and Wren 67.
Dickie's goal is good as you can't be offside from a corner.
But Amos did block the keeper - missed by the ref.
And the goal could have been cancelled.
It was not and we are all delighted.
The blocking of the keeper is more important than being in an offside position.
It's really just a technical point.
One then for our resident ref Pinner Paul - although at the end of the day - we won.
And that's what counts.

I thought he was offside when Dickie flicked it on but then again their goal was handball so evened itself out.

Thought first half was quite even but going forward we were poor again, much better second half got real control of the midfield and never looked like losing it after we equalised. Similar to Coventry away

So I guess Amos is offside at the point that the ball comes off Dickie. Amos is in front of the keeper but because the ball comes from an angle, Amos isn't between the ball and the keeper.

One of those that could have been disallowed - thankfully for us today, it wasn't.

In a similar vein, the handball could have been given in the build up to the Luton goal but wasn't.

Watched the whole game and had no dog in the fight but thought it was a typical championship game where both teams could justify why they did or didn’t deserve to win.How did we win that and how did we lose that are asked by fans frequently post match in the championship best to just check out the league table and smile is my advice don’t waste your breath having to justify it.

I'm not sure I buy any of this 'daylight robbery' stuff.

They had a few chances and so did we. They were better in the first half and we were better in the second. They had more shots, we had more possession. They scored a flukey goal and an offside goal, we scored a peno and a flukey corner.

Just because we didn't play at our best doesn't mean we didn't deserve to win.

We were poor first half. I know we play out from the back but we sit really deep inviting pressure and just didn't get the ball in good areas in the final third. Even when we went more direct and flung balls forward there was no one on the end. Lots of really sloppy passing and giving away possession.
I'm no tactical expert but if we are playing with wing backs they didn't seem to run the lines well and deliver crosses which in my mind is the way to do it but doesn't seem to happen these days. Austin coming on did make a difference but Willock for me turned the game around and we started to create more in the final third. Dunne though for me was my Motm. What a player he's turning out to be. That captains armband will be his soon.
Our fans were on top form.
