Watching the Cameroon Burkina Faso game and it reminds me of how the World Cup used to be, you might know one or two players but the rest are a mystery. Some real good players on show you’ve never heard of plus proper fouls. Burkina Faso look decent. And Technicolor kits.
Looking forward to watching it - seeing Chair and Taarabt ripping it up for Morocco would be a great QPR moment, plus looks like Seny might get a game for Senegal. No idea who might win though

Keith Stroud lives and breathes in African form in Tunisia v Mali game Ref blew up for full time on 85 minutes until it was pointed out at least another 5 minutes left and then sends a Malian player off for run of the mill foul and then blows full time at 89 minutes in spite of a VAR monitor check

Ref has proper lost the plot there, like a rabbit in the headlights

And people wonder why this tournament gets no respect....
Tbf the switch to 24 teams isn't doing it any favours either
That is shocking - there are 4 of you, it beggars belief that one gets the timing wrong but even more so that the other 3 don't tell him at the time!
For certain posters, just for the record , there is NO defending that level of incompetence for ANY game with 3 or 4 officials, at an international tournament its just an embarrassment.

Re that clip, it was interesting that the Rotherham players were having a moan at the ref at HT about not allowing them to take their corner, even though 45' was up and there was no added time.

All 4 officials sent home now apparently.

There is an interesting question here. The decision to call the end of a half is a judgement decision by the referee (and most likely his assistants). However, Law 7 states that "A match lasts for two equal halves of 45 minutes, which may only be reduced if agreed between the referee and the two teams before the start of the match and if in accordance with competition rules." That is, a rule of Law that a half must be at least 45 minutes. So, does Mali have the right to appeal? Or was the decision by the organisers to request the players to re-enter the FoP 30mins later enough to satisfy any alterations to the time played? Obviously, the organisers here are hoping for the latter. Just imaging if this was England v Germany in the World Cup.
Separately to this, though slightly related is the Senegal penalty situation. I remember being told that a penalty can be the "last kick of the game" as such that if the ball does not go into the goal immediately then the penalty is not considered converted, except if it rebounds off a post or the keeper. That is, there is no follow up by any player. And, unlike the Senegal game, there is no requirement for the game to be restarted with a kick off from the centre spot. it probably looks strange in an International which why they do not employ it there.
As to the Rotherham situation, a rule is that when refereeing at an open field, like with youth games or low level games, always call HT when the ball is in play. You don't want to have to go chasing after a ball well out of play if you signalled HT and the ball was heading to a car park or down a hill. Get the players to retrieve it for you.
