Most of their chances were shots from outside the box, none even remotely troubled Seny. Most relaxing game of the season so far. When you’re winning 2-0, you don’t need to create a hatful of chances. Thought we managed the game and closed it out with ease. |
Totally agree. I think some people put that sort of crap just to provoke a reaction. Once we went two nil up we rarely looked in any danger. They had chances but we're mostly long range efforts they had been restricted to. I think I'm tending to agree more with the Sky report which called it a comfortable win.

The F uck sky Luton match thread! on 23:57 - Nov 19 by Myke | Look at the stats Antti. They played every bit as well as Blackpool, we helped by regularly giving them back the ball. Yes, they took several wild shots from the edge of the box, but that was down to bad decision making, my point being they spent a hell of a lot of time around the edge of our area. As I said in another post, I watched it sober as I had to drive straight afterwards, so that may have contributed to my lack of 'relaxation', but wouldn't have liked to have taken my blood pressure any time between 7.45 and 9.45 |
Not close to being as good as Blackpool in my book. They lacked both that club's speed and incisiveness. As others have said most of their chances came from outside the penalty area, which indicates decent defending on our part. We were thin upfront, which a good team – like Blackpool – would have exploited. As it was we caused them enough problems to win comfortably anyway. It wasn't as exciting as some of our recent matches – particularly the second half – but we did the job comfortably.

The F uck sky Luton match thread! on 00:51 - Nov 20 by Rangersw12 | Absolute nonsense Don't think they had a shot on target and it felt pretty comfortable watching in the ground 5th in league and we beat the pikeys on their biggest game of season a fantastic night |
Totally agree. At the game as well and said on here that it was possibly the most stress free game for a long time To me we could still be playing and Luton would not have scored. Think Seny made 2 saves all night, the Dunne howler and the near post effort, apart from that they never looked likely to score. Think we have to accept that we are just a decent championship side, Think the Fulham game in particular showed that, and even the WBA and Bournemouth games showed we will struggle if we went up. But I would take a year of shellacking if it meant securing a future for the club. So cold light of day, 5th.... clean sheet..... Chaz scored ..... and returnees....... great Saturday morning. Hope the Beck Theatre tonight is just as enjoyable

Well got the score right and Austin’s goal …enjoyable evening thought we improved in the second half ..some terrible defending in the first. What was with all the police in South Africa Rd did not see any trouble or hint of it seemed a bit over the top.
The F uck sky Luton match thread! on 08:25 - Nov 20 with 1518 views | Hooparoo | Lots of positives. Field and Wallace are back, we weren’t particularly fluid but scored two good goals. Only thing that bugs me (as an old CM) is JoJo and Dozzell being so left footed. So many times there was an angle for a pass but neither of them are confident to even pass short with their right foot. The real contrast was when Field and Amos came on. Both are right footed but can pass with either foot and worked the angles well. Defence looked solid and we are looking entrenched in the top 6. Blackburn will have to win 4-0 tomorrow to catch us so regardless of results we will end the weekend in the play off places. We are looking good and we have hopefully had our little blip and can now push on. Happy days at last 😃

Always makes me chuckle when I read about left footed players giving unbalance to the side. And what of 2 x right footed CMs… rather than 2 x left footed CMs…. Can we safely assume you were a right footed player… with no left foot?!

No, that was his fifth booking but one of those was against Everton in the Cup. I believe the rules are it's now only bookings accrued in the same competition that count for suspension.

The F uck sky Luton match thread! on 22:26 - Nov 19 by Myke | Not sure how anyone could say we played well as a team. Luton dominated the game from start to finish - we created two chances and took them expertly although their keeper should have done better for both. They created umpteen chances and didn't take any of them. At one point in the first half the stats showed they had 11 touches in our box and we had one in theirs. We had some excellent individual performances: Seny looked calm and assured. Wallace was immense and lasted the whole game (makes the 'scientific' decision to remove McCallum after an hour v Fulham even more ludicrous) Barbet a good shout for MoM. In midfield Dozzell was good first half got sloppier as the game went on. Johansen went the other way, improved as the game went on, made one sensational run back to cut out a Luton breakaway. Chair and Willock different class and Charlie deserved his goal for looking leaner and fitter and more involved generally. So lots of individually good performances but very poor collectively - so many miss-placed passes putting us under unnecessary pressure. Take the win. Take the clean sheet. Take 5th with both hands. As Clive said a couple of weeks ago, it's all about keeping in touch and we are doing that and then some - but man it plays havoc with the blood pressure! |
Agree with all of that Myke, some great individual performances and a few Ropey ones. Adoma didn’t get past the first man with his crosses all night which is bizarre as he is usually pinpoint. He continued to work hard and show for the ball but was dead on his feet after 75 mins. Love Charlie, but our lack of pace up front doesn’t give us an option when we are under the cosh. Chair and Willock are superb but need another outlet to play up to and feed off. Chaz just doesn’t have the legs for it. Have to say, even at 2 up, never felt comfortable as we are so open and look vulnerable. Nonetheless, we know we are still not at our best and as Warbs pointed out, we will get better now the injuries are abating. Our best is yet to come.

The point is we allowed them the openings to have sixteen shots at our goal. Just as well it wasn’t Solanke or Mitrovich playing for them as they don’t need a second chance. There was a point in the first half where Chair and Willock were showboating which is great to watch, but it ultimately ended back with our keeper. Chance creation is a big stat these days and managers bang on about it constantly. Pretty football is all well and good but it needs an end product. Perspective is a personal experience and reading the posts tonight highlights the difference between the glass half full/empty camps. We won, im delighted, but I personally always look at things from a continuous improvement perspective and there is lots to improve, particularly the cohesive structure of the team .

It is not the glass being half or full scenario. Those of us at the ground felt that it was comfortable & some that watched on TV/streams etc didn't think that. I put this difference down to being able to see the full picture at the ground rather than just what is in the camera shot. Nobody at the back of MU had any doubts that it was comfortable & thet we wouldn't concede.

Read my post again. I said that Field and Amos are two footed when passing whereas Dozzell and Johansen aren’t. I am right footed but could pass, shoot and cross with either foot as any centre midfielder should be able to do. [Post edited 20 Nov 2021 10:23]

TOP FIVE oh yes. | | | |

Well that's an interesting point Terryb. Obviously two different experiences so impossible to comment on the other. I definitely think if I had been able to have a couple of drinks while watching it it would have taken the edge off, but I had to drive as soon as the whistle went. Alcohol can certainly help with the relaxation/enjoyment. In 2010 we had a big freeze, can't remember if it was as bad in Britain. Anyway, like minus 17 degrees in December, unprecedented and everything frozen up/impassible. Roads like sheets of glass. Friends of mine going to a New Year's house party in Letterkenny, literally across the road from their own house. They actually crawled across the road on their hands and knees going to the party at 8pm, but strolled home without a bother at 3am!
The F uck sky Luton match thread! on 10:56 - Nov 20 with 1101 views | dmm | A small observation. Last night was the first time we've scored more than one goal since the 3-2 win v PNE on 2nd October. Goals conceded improved a little in that time, with the exception of Fulham of course, but I wonder if Warburton has just dialled things down a touch?

About the shots, I agree 100%. You can't call them 'missed chances' in that sense. MW said the same, was happy to see those shots, yes you will get the odd 'worldy' but they are quite rare, at any level, which is why most coaches happy for teams to have as many pot shots from 20 yards plus as they like.
The F uck sky Luton match thread! on 14:50 - Nov 20 with 501 views | francisbowles | I've been a lot more stressed in the ground than last night As long as it stayed 2-0, it was fine. However, had they got one back then the bp goes up. Fine margins, as in nearly every game.
