Happy with the day or disappointed overall on 00:58 - Sep 1 by ReslovenSwan1 | Obafemi is number 9. Short, strong and fast with good ball control. Last season Lowe came with 5 championship goals. This guy comes with 5 Premier league goals and only 21. Richarlison scored 7 PL goals last season. It is not easy. MO could make hay in the championship. Piroe another bought for pennies is already showing his worth. Nticham is a number 8 or 10 on a free transfer. A bit laid back like Leroy Fer who was a monster in the championship when fit. Liam Walsh is also creative. Hopefully he can feature with is crisp short passing. Whittaker was due to go on loan but scored a hat trick on his last outing. I guess we are stuck with him!. He has 5 goals in 18 appearances and starting to kick on. One in three or four is already decent. Dhanda and Bidwell are also out of contract next summer. Bidwell is a good pro and will not let the club down. He will do his job. Swansea were unable to get a fee for him. Cullen will either kick on or fade away to the lower leagues. It is a big ask for a local lad to play up front and score regularly for Swansea. Dhanda could still make the grade under Martin. Most likely Dan Williams will pass him by. Sink or swim. He may chose to leave in January. Either way it will not break the bank. Garrick, Ollie Cooper, Cameron Evans and Joseph can develop their careers and return better more rounded players just like Grimes and Roberts did. The two loans are elite players and will show Swansea own what they need to aspire to. I have no doubt Cabango learned from Guehi and vice versa. |
I was with you until you said Dhanda could still make the grade, and then it all folded like a pack of cards.
Happy with the day or disappointed overall on 01:55 - Sep 1 with 1000 views | WalterBoyd | So having stayed up until 1 a.m., Keith the tease. WTF. Are Cullen, Bidwell, Grimes still here? Yet lost Lowe, Robert's and anyone who scored or assisted a goal last season. And we have also kept a few players as well as some already mentioned, that Russ made clear he wanted hem to leave. It's been a bit of a cock up of a transfer window in all fairness. I look forward to the next press conference as I want to see how far I can stretch my ' bullshitometer' before selling it.

Cullen down as a forward, we really do need him to score regularly. Otherwise……

Happy with the day or disappointed overall on 06:11 - Sep 1 with 906 views | Dr_Winston | The whole thing hinges on whether Ntcham; A - Signs, and B - Delivers. We've added the ball playing defender most people wanted, and swapped a forward that most thought couldn't play under Martin for one who should be able to. The big question mark remains over midfield. If ON can add the dynamism that's been missing for more than two seasons then we'll probably be fine until Jan. If he doesn't and we're still reliant on Grimes to do it then we might have a problem. I'd be happier if we'd f*cked Grimes off for the £2.9m and brought in Fosu instead, but Martin clearly really, really likes Grimes. I hope he's not let down.

Yes, first sentence is key. So far, we haven’t addressed the issue of not being able to play out past the first midfielder. Grimes has struggled with it so far, haven’t seen enough of Downes. Ntcham is either going to have to influence that or Martin is going to have to tweak his tactics. Getting the ball stuck between the keeper, back three and deepest midfielder is the route of our problems. I’ve had sympathy for Martin so far, but he’s going to have to sort that out one way or another or performances aren’t going to improve much.
Happy with the day or disappointed overall on 06:31 - Sep 1 with 881 views | Dr_Winston | My biggest problem with Grimes is that he's like some managers son in a local youth team. He's captain every game, even though there might be better candidates (definitely last season, less so now). He plays almost all of every game, even when he's having a stinker. He takes all our free kicks, even when he's not very good at them. Unless he's injured or suspended, he's there no matter what. It's just frustrating to see. Downes looks, based on the glimpses I've had so far, more willing to run with the ball and risk riding a tackle. Smith and Fulton tackle harder. We have to shake things up in the middle and Grimes has been the only constant. [Post edited 1 Sep 2021 6:33]

. The presser will be predictably slippery. . So Slick gets to keep 'Grimesy' his #1 most prized asset, talismanic leader and captain. The best CDM in this league. He now has all his well rounded pegs to slot into his holes. Let's hope he can now begin to organise his pegs into the right gaping chasms on the pitch, inject some of the zip we once had, play in the triangles we were famous for and start regaining some semblance of respect by getting back up to the top of table where we are so accustomed to being. He needs to start to show he knows what he's doing and at the very least rediscover our fighting spirit, our hwyl. Something we've leveraged as an Edge is now a weakness. . .

Happy with the day or disappointed overall on 07:25 - Sep 1 with 822 views | Headmaster | Not good enough. Why was the Fosu deal dependant on Grimes leaving? But glad we kept Whittaker, would've been stupid to let him go. [Post edited 1 Sep 2021 7:27]

Happy with the day or disappointed overall on 07:43 - Sep 1 with 800 views | 34dfgdf54 | Poor window for me. Not short of numbers, but desperately short of quality and any sort of flair in midfield. Obafemi addresses the pace issue to some extent but very dissapointed the Fosu deal hinged on Grimes leaving, that should have been wrapped up regardless for me.
Happy with the day or disappointed overall on 19:44 - Sep 1 with 662 views | AndyCole | . The 'It should OF been Morris' camp from next door are clearly champing at the bit to criticise RM's transfer dealings, and are poised to strike when the going gets tough. Painted into yet another (twps) corner, from the 'offset'. At least they're not indoors, just yet. . .

This is a great summary of the squad and their numbers / positions. Whittaker listed as a striker, but being a number 11, and I know he has previous experience as a winger, could he be used as attacking midfield, possibly on the left as well as right. I would like a 4231 occasionally, Whittaker as one of the 3, possibly on the left. Daniel James style, or am I barking mad.

As I see it, if we played 4-2-3-1 the front 4 would need to look something like this; Obafemi ------- Patterson/Ntcham ----------- Whittaker --------------------------- Piroe ----------------------------------- Bench = Cullen Which of course leaves you no options for rotating wingers. With Cullen deputising at striker. If Whittaker plays as AM in a 4-2-3-1 you'll have... Obafemi ------------ Whittaker ---------------- Piroe --------------------------- Cullen ------------------------- We will have literally no options on the bench to change things except midfielders. When we are playing 2 games a week, never mind loss of form/injuries/suspensions, this formation will not be feasible. We are not gong to pick the same 11 every game. I conclude that Martin will need to pay 3-5-2/3-6-1...with those 4 'Forwards' competing for 2 slots...this will allow some rotation. This also makes sense re: 5 CBs competing for 3 slots (for rotation) with Latibeaudiere and Manning able to fill in at centre-back in an injury crisis. What doesn't make sense is 8 midfielders competing for 3 slots...and of those 8 I am not confident that any of them have the creativity required to play AM...I liked Walsh as an option (not to be relied on though)...I can understand the gamble on Olivier Ntcham... BUT I don't understand why we haven't shipped out Dhanda, I don't understand taking Patterson on, I don't understand why Korey Smith is still around (we have Downes and Fulton as DM options now, and some of us are proposing Walsh or Ntcham play next to Grimes).... We shouldn't have signed Patterson, we should have sold Dhanda and possibly Smith...then we could have bought/loaned one or two Attacking midfielders/wingers who could have bolstered our attacking options.

Really looking forward to see who plays where and team shape. Thanks Ajack for putting it all into a great format / team / options in each position. For people like me, keeping it simple and seeing it in black and white works great. I can visualise it much better.
