Olympics thread on 19:48 - Aug 2 by londonlisa2001 | Yes, I understand that you don’t. Which is fine. I’m just saying that it’s not really a posho type thing exclusively any more. You seem to be suggesting that one of the reasons you don’t like it is it’s exclusivity? It’s more a townie vs country thing. Lots of rural people ride and keep horses irrespective of their background. |
Like former medalists Capt Mark Phillips & his daughter Zara you mean?

So? As I’ve said it’s not exclusively a posho thing. Obviously there are many who have that sort of background. Same with rowing. And sailing. And shooting. Etc etc etc. Plus why can’t people from that background enjoys sports and compete in the Olympics anyway? Don’t watch Chariots of Fire whatever you do. You won’t enjoy the athletics much after watching that. Although actually perhaps we should bin them all seeing as Baton de Coubertin was the founder of the modern Olympics.

I was quite surprised when I lived both in West Berkshire and South Warks (after living in South Wales and London) how many people rode or shot. Many far from rich or posh.

I had the individual show jumping on in the background, as the commentator said "the best horse won" I rest my case

Most of our sailing team sail in very inexpensive dingies and are hardly posh. Two more golds this morning.

Thats a human and a machine, unlike the Americas cup or F1, all the machines are the same, so its a fair competition. Horses shouldn't be at the games, which has been my argument all the way thru... which is why I've also been going on about "sheep dog trials", why don't we have them too then?

don't care how well the horses are looked after. the games should be "who is the best?" not "how well your horse is trained?"

Well the Olympic motto does include faster and higher! As it goes I agree about the horses, the best trained horse with the best rider, if we're allowing that then why not flat racing? I prefer BMX as it goes.

we were above the Aussies at one point yesterday, they've gone back ahead again now Then again, the Yanks are now ranking the table as the total medals won, which shows them above China, odd that, in which case, we're 10 clear of the Aussies

What the yanks think is irrelevant, but the Aussies have had a stunning games. They must have been stung by all our bragging and boasting after the last games They have half our population and resources too

Thick enough to have a batchelor's degree in accounting? Johnson is the best athletics pundit out there. He's not into showjumping. So what?
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |
