Whats going on with the Ireland side at the moment? A talent drain? bad manager? bad luck? All of the above?

Poll: Moses Odubajo - Stick or Twist?

I am one of the few Englishman that wants to see all the ‘home’ countries make tournaments. They are really up against the wall now.

I supported Kenny's appointment, but he looks completely out of his depth. Not playing the football he promised, not scoring and obviously not winning. Considering Stephens and Doherty were supposed to be wing backs, they rarely ventured past the half-way line. Every time, every. single. time. whoever was on the ball, their first instinct was to to turn back. Shameful, embarrassing performance, they got exactly what they deserved.

Were woeful no width no zip to their passing cannot see them scoring from open play at any point. When the best Irish player is the debutant keeper it's not a good thing

RTÉ mentioned the word "shock". The only shock is that anyone considers this a shock.

We are a Nation that has farmed out our Player Development to England for ever. The FAI treat our League with disdain. Our fans don't support our League. We have huge talent but terrible Player Development. We've had a lot of great players throughout our history and some great teams that were unlucky in not qualifying for Finals, but the only teams that qualified for Finals have been underpinned by players who decided they were Irish in their twenties.

That smacks of a Nation that's not doing enough.

Luxembourg were the better team tonight.

Ireland don’t have the players plain & simple
Kenny has an impossible job, he has to change it from the hoof ball of McCarthy & O’Neil and he is doing it with players from Rochdale , Luton , Preston etc
It’s going to take time the problem is if you sack him then who takes over

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Agreed, Paul.

In the same way that you don't take a player off without being sure that you have a sub who'll perform better.

Edit - spell check.

The only way to bring Irish football forward imo is to form a Celtic league
Merge the Northern Irish , Eire & Scottish leagues

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Genuinely, thanks folks.

But we're not a 'home' Country, no more than Iceland is.

Maybe the FAI need to learn that lesson more than anyone.

Would rather a tournament with Eire, N Ireland, Scotland, Wales in it than Slovakia, Poland , Turkey, Norway etc

If not for the Geographical or Cultural affinity then Barries, Kerrigold, Soda Bread, and Guinness.

This could be a Vauxhall Motors moment for Ireland. QPR were promoted less than a decade after that bollocks.

Comes back to the Premier League. The influx of foreign players stifled opportunities for Scottish and Irish players to play top level football in England.

But Irish players are foreign players in England/Britain, By definition.

But we got away with UEFA tweaks for a while, and the FAI have always relied on England to develop top Irish players for them.

Post-Brexit, Ireland doesn't have that luxury.

It may not be much consolation Brian but I’d say that if you were going to pick a World Cup to miss out on, then this would be the one.
