I'm very pleased I decided to watch this game!

I thought we played well apart from the opening ten minutes & fifteen after Cameron came on. I think we can forgive Dickie & Dieng for the goal, they've done enough to be allowed an error! Our two "Scotsmen" were immense. Barbet & Willock very good as well.

Can we replay the first half of the season?

I tried a Monty Burns 'Willers' for a while but that might have sounded a bit 'rugby' thinking about it. This does seem a bit more accurate and thanks for the proper spelling.

Haha sorry didn't mean to make it look like I was correcting you.

Yeah it's a very appropriate nickname for him! A ghostly light over Championship bog games. Also leading us into false hope of a winner this time unfortunately.

Would have been happy with a point before hand - result could have gone either way but we finished strongly.

Ref was awful - gave soft free kicks to Reading continually, then the same challenge on us wasn't given. He refereed on the basis of who shouted loudest, same as when we played Brentford away. Quite frankly, it's embarrassing that professional officials are so easily influenced.

And how come we didn't get a penalty when the reading defender handled the ball on the floor?

"And how come we didn't get a penalty when the reading defender handled the ball on the floor?"

The Reading players shouted the loudest so....free kick to Reading.

Don't worry it all happens again in the autumn.

Agree that Dickie and Dieng should have done better but it was that little flick by Meite that created the chance.

One simple point we have high quality technical players everywhere.Dicky can play,Barbet certainly a passing defender .Wallace -very impressed-.Kakay looks to have improved.
Midfielders and Forwards have to be.
This means a very high percentage of our passes are accurate so we keep possession. That last twenty minutes was lovely

I don't know what to think any more about Wallace's resurgence. Why do footballers suddenly appear, every time contracts are near?

Guess he's earned an extension. Another year at this level of output gives us breathing space finding/grooming his successor.

At very least even if most of his time here has turned out iffy we now can say we get why he was signed in the first place.

Point is okay with me, I'm just so pleased Lyndon scored chuffed to bits for the bloke, seems to me he's getting better game by game--he never hid during the 'hard times' did he? just kept going.

Very satisfying performance apart from a wobbly opening 20 mins in the second half. I thought Dykes and Wallace were excellent and Willock showed his class when he came off the bench. Really should have won that game. Hope de Wijs injury not serious. If we can keep our loanees I don't see why we can't be play-off contenders next season.

A Warbs "fine margins" game. They were well on top early on, we weathered the storm and ended the half well. They started the second half well (were we sitting back a bit?) and before and after the goal we looked shaky.

But then the last 15-20 mins they seemed to fall apart somewhat and only one team was going to win that.

And just imagine the pelters Lumley would have got for that goal! Yes, Seny has some credit in the bank, but that was poor.

The Lyndon and Lee revival continues - gwan my boys!

I don't understand blaming Seny for that, it's point blank. Dickie can't be getting done by rudimentary punts like that if he's to progress, despite Meite being a strong bugger admittedly.

And yeah some maybe mock Warbs saying "fine margins" all the time but it's true! Hollow draws, hollow defeats, even hollow wins, it's been a season of them.

He started very poorly and took a while to get going but he was very good in the second half: his fitness helped us to keep going forward until the end.

Well no he went blonde earlier in the season then (quite literally) bottled it. As soon as he turned up having another go at it I was hopeful, and lo the real slim shady has stood up.

Not even really joking tbh.

I'll admit I was in and out during the first half as my sons computer was playing up. I wondered why nobody had mentioned him because he looked calm and collected and never looked like he was going to give it away in the 2nd half. I guess nightwish saw more of the first half than I did as well. Anyway, I liked the cut of his jib and think he could be another money spinner for us.

I'm not blaming him for that in the same way I wouldn't have blamed Lumley if he did it. Others would.

I am sure that, by Seny's high standards, he will be disappointed with it, however.

And agree of the "fine margins" stuff. The league is generally poor and there is little between most teams. Most of our games have been decided by one goal illustrating that point quite nicely.

Sure, I wasn't suggesting you were being abusive about it. Obviously there's a stigma to it going between your legs as a keeper but at that range I can't find him at fault for the goal though.

Unfortunately, I do think that he could have done better.

I think the correct set-up always involves feet being shoulder-width apart - it stops the meg and also allows you to spring a foot to either side. Go any wider and the first becomes more likely and the second becomes more difficult.

At the moment the ball is struck, Dieng's feet are more than shoulder width apart.

It's not all on him, though.

Barbet gets rolled and puts in a weak challenge.
Cameron is in their half and way over right.
Dickie gets done by a lovely flick, but will surely still be disappointed to get beaten by an OTT ball.

It's a poor goal, but compared to last season we're not seeing many of them so just a case of learning and moving on, I think.

The goal was a result of three basic error by us. Barbet, bullied off the ball (he should have fouled his opponent immediately as he would have known several players were out of position. Dickie, getting done by the most rudimentary of punts down the middle. If it was on the ground, I would have some sympathy for him, but in the air, should have been meat and drink to him. Instead, he completely misjudges the flight of the ball, then tries to get 'handsy' with the Reading striker, thinks better of it (he has definitely learned in that respect), but then gets fooled by a simple check-back and ends up on the floor. These two errors compounded by Dieng fumbling a weak shot through his legs
Okay that's the negative stuff out of the way. On to the positives. Dykes, goal! A typical poachers goal, he wanted it more than the Reading defender. So happy for him!
A point, moving onto 50, feels more significant, psychologically than the point itself. A bit like moving onto 40 after the Preston match. 50 is a significant milestone and seemed light years away last Xmas when we were perpetually stuck in the 20's.
Well done to everybody involved.
Finally, let's hope injuries not too serious and Dykes doesn't get too knackered for Scotland.

Forgetting Scotland for a moment, its a shame this international break has come now for Dykes. Probably the rest of the squad it's a good time for it but I think another couple of games at the club, playing to this standard, would have created a level of performance for him.
He's off now with another manager/coach and hopefully it doesn't affect his game in any way, as you say though if he comes back after playing well for Scotland then we might see him playing to another level again?
Good to see him back on form though, proving he is worth sticking with.

Edit.
In relation to his transfer fee, what would his value be if we were to sign a player from Luton/Birmingham/Preston who played to that level albeit not a prolific scorer?
Essential he now maintains this level of performance for his own career development and obviously for us too.

Good post Myke I just watched the highlight and totally agree on that description .Their player should have been hacked right away with the Man City model but then Dickie losing the hand to hand combat just compounded matters .It should have been all irrelevant if SD blocked it but for once he did not bail us out.
The same Reading player missed a wide open net later with our players dead in the water .
Going off the posts we should have won but a point is fine to finish off a good few days

Naturally Senny will be disappointed wirth the way the goal went in, but he adopted the same stance as he did mid week when saving the shot from the Millwall (Bennet?) striker when he was through on on one and it worked that time. Very difficult for a keeper in so close proximety to the striker when he has the whole goal to aim at. Unfortuately for a keeper it just looks worse when he is nut megged
