Uneventful first half, I think Willock needs to look for a pass instead of trying to run past every player. Dieng superb as always. I think the wet pitch is effecting our passing, looks like the ball is being played short. Hopefully we can get a quick goal and be done with it.

llinyn gêm Caerdydd - Match thread Cardiff on 19:46 - Jan 20 by Hunterhoop | This has been a pretty poor half. Way too many square pegs in round holes. Centra midfield is a glaring weakness. Chair are Willock are fine in possession but when Cardiff have it they may as well not be there. Willock is clearly trying but he simply isn’t reading the game like a central midfielder. Ball is getting overloaded. And Niko does not look up to being a WB. He’s far too conservative and yet still loses it far too much. I’m not sure how we can change it without changing the shape. |
Great post, Hunter. Shape is fine but we look confused in midfield due to the absence of LTC. Willock is in the same right-central defensive mid spot as Ball, Chair is in the left defensive mid spot. The middle is open and we're too deep as a team. No hope of getting ball to Austin and Dykes. 1) This is a pedestrian game in horrible weather so Cameron to Anchor with Ball instead of Willock is one option, with Kakay coming in at RCB ands Dickie going central. Chair could edge forward then. 2) Bettache for Willock and hold as we are, also an option.

Can’t ever see it being a success with Niko and Willock in the same team, imagine Cardiff will work that out over HT.
llinyn gêm Caerdydd - Match thread Cardiff on 19:54 - Jan 20 with 1706 views | QPRSteve | We stopped making chances after 15 minutes. Chair is anonymous, we need to get him in the game. Hammy worries me - he never looks that comfortable in possession and makes some poor decisions. Still Cardiff aren't up to much.

Noone linking defense to attack other than the odd burst from ball/cameron/Dickie. Kane started well and faded. Willock fairly ineffective so far and the other forwards getting very little service. Positives are defense fairly solid and Dieng doing the business again. [Post edited 20 Jan 2021 19:59]

It's their players pïssing themselves about playing us.
llinyn gêm Caerdydd - Match thread Cardiff on 19:58 - Jan 20 with 1570 views | stainrods_elbow | The conditions may have played a part, but that was pretty dire fare from both sides. A famine of passing and not so much possession as dispossession football. Whatever the opposite of building on (? demolishing) the Luton showing is we seem to have accomplished it. Chair anonymous and far too deep. Now we're paying BOS not to play for us, our lack of attacking width has been acute. Niko can't do the job he's asked to, Kane still can't cross a ball, and Charlie's hardly had a sniff. Warburton loves to play the 'look after the football' record, but he and his coaches seem unable to inculcate this and/or lacks the players to do so. Nick London more or less saying that was a sack of shite, but the good news is it's 0-0 and now we can try and decide what to do in the 2nd half!

If putting Cameron in midfield is the answer, I worry about the question.
