Fake Hoops Match Thread 09:17 - Dec 12 with 26817 viewsSuperhoops2808

Been on these forums for years and several will remember me from the paddocks as a former ST holder, but thought as its been an age wait for fans to return to HQ I would start a match thread for the first time ever...

Prediction:
3-1 to the real hoops with at least one Dykes penalty

Hope all who go to the ground today enjoy

Can’t see us getting anything from Stoke

And to be honest I can’t see us scoring against Wycombe

I’ve said before, we are a mid table (at best) League 1 team playing in the Championship.

If we do not go down this season it will be a miracle

I dont want Warburton here and think he is out of his depth but do you really think Les is going to appoint a manager in the form of a fat Sam, pullis etc to keep us up
Also at what point does our DOF need to be questioned? We have had money to spend again and not spent it wisely, yes spend on a couple of up & coming players but you also need a couple of experienced heads also

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Apart from Chair's shot that hit the post we didn't get sniff on goal. We seem to cut Dykes out the picture, not sure why, it's like we don't want to score.

This team promises so much but don't deliver. Very frustrating, especially when Reading score such a quality goal.

Fine margins, had Chair scored would have been a very different game...but he didn't

Not sure what the solution is, but getting Dykes more involved would be a good start.

Who should we get in place of and what can they do to improve how our players perform?

Mate, I'll come and do it for £50 a year. The results won't be any better but let's face it, they couldn't be any worse. On the up side, the club won't have spent so much on a manger that gets us relegated

No one wants to say a bad word about Les but truth is, having a DoF has not worked.

Laziness from the owners for sure.

When willl this CV nightmare end

We’ll definitely need to bring some experience in January regardless of who’s the manager. Ideally a cb, lb and cm plus a striker on loan. Hope we’ve got some money left to spend.

I thought there were positives; Carroll, Barbet and Dickie and thought Niko looked more assured on the ball.

Negatives for me were BOS, Dykes, Cameron and all of the subs made us worse.

I'm not sure we have enough creativity in the other half/final third as we aren't making clear cut chances and opposition defenders seem to make our play predictable enough, enabling them to squash the space or get a block in.

Agree, but would also add Willock. Thought he played well first half.

Let’s presume Nigel Pearson came here, I just can’t see him keeping this squad. Can you imagine Pearson finding Barbet, Carroll, and Dickie useful? Plus, are Pearson’s vision of the game going to be useful for the youngsters like Kakay and Hamelainen?

If we are a club looking for a sticky plaster, then yeah, but we need to make any signing or appointment with 5-10 years in mind IMO.

I don’t think a manager who managed Brentford for many years and a Old Firm team can be called out of his depth.

As someone else wiser than me has said, we are underperforming not under achieving.

As for Les, he is doing exactly what is asked of him. Wages down, youngsters up. The signings we’ve spent money on are all doing ok, including our top scorer.

There is no debate about the results though PP. We have wasted so many opportunities.

and selling Eze for the money he did is exactly what they want nowadays.

Brentford model.

MW wasn't at Rangers that long, nor at Brentford for v long and his time at Forest was not fondly remembered by their fans.....

Out of his depth maybe unfair but there are worrying signs of his past issues I suspect, in addition the way Brentford has moved on since his time...

The sad thing is it was all so predictable. I said to Mrs Stan on 83 that we're trying our hardest to lose this game. Needless free kicks, awful clearances.

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

Bazza you could of managed Rangers out of the second division
Brentford yes he did well but they got rid for a reason , when I say Warburton is out of his depth I mean in the fact that it’s the same formation, same subs, same excuses , he cannot change it , it’s the same game every week , we are not having 40 shots on goal and conceding a last minute winner against the run of play , we are badly organised our set pieces for and against is woeful , we look like falling to pieces every time someone attacks us
I do agree about your point in Les reducing the wage bill and bringing through some decent youngsters, but he has also signed some real dross for big money and messed up with BOS and mannings contracts
It’s all well and good signing young players but who is going to pay through the nose for any of our lot when they are 19th in the league , you need a balance
We were crying out for fullbacks and a midfield enforcer but we didn’t do it
I really fear for us

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Not laziness so much as a shield for them. Appoint a club legend and suddenly us being crap and going nowhere isn't such an issue for Les fanboys. Do Brentford hand senior roles in the club to former players? Of course not, but they're a well-run club whose owner has a plan and employs people based on their professional aptitude. The sad reality is while the current owners are in charge, it won't matter who our manager is. Just wish they'd f*ck off.

MW managed Brentford 2013 to 2015 according to WIki

Fine margins perfectly illustrated today - both Chair and Olise given room to shoot from a similar distance. Chair's curling shot hits the inside of the post and stays out, Olise's left-footed curler finds the bottom corner.

Problem is, top teams work on those fine margins, tweak things so that they work in their favour. Reading's body language and stamina in the last 5 mins told me they were the better, more professional side (even through the game itself was even). It appears that the fine margins go against us but we need to work on those little things like not closing down shots, giving away free-kicks in dangerous areas, poor throw-ins, switching off at quick free-kicks.

Stop me if you've seen this movie before.

Good first half. Attractive football, nice interplay, good build up work, lots of possession the opposition half, but not many actual chances. Second half. Oppo comes out a bit brighter, but were still OK for about fifteen minutes. Sub Willock. Team begins to tire. Bring on two more subs. Lose cohesion. Other team increases possession, realises they can nick it, scores with only shot on goal a minute from time.

It's all getting worryingly repetitive.

I fear for us too.

I just can’t see sacking Warburton or maybe Les solving any issues, especially without two extremely nailed on successful replacements lined up.

FT.

Disappointed for those in attendance today.

You shouldnt be Brian , I was there in the away end on my own , my sons at home isolating . It was all a bit surreal at first then it dawned on me what an absolute priveledge it was to be there . Result apart I really enjoyed it after being concerned that I had got too used to a stream ...and just discovered I have been successful for Tues ..

Lee Bowyer
Mark Robbins
Paul Cook
Danny Cowley
Nigel Pearson
Kenny Jackett

To me those are realistic targets if Warburton goes

Warbs is a bit of an Icing cake manager as I like to call it, similarities to Hughes who had certain similarities in this respect.

Can look good, some pretty stuff, but no substance underneath and the same old probems and failings but like I say it can look good for a while, with pretty patterns passes etc looking technical and sophisticated despite losing a man at the back for a corner ever single game etc.

I just don’t see any of those as nailed on successes. Off the top of my head I think they have all relegated clubs from the Championship but might be wrong?

When I started going we were the best local team, we’d just finished as top club in London 3 years in a row.

Sad to see where we are now, if it weren’t for charlton and orient we’d be the worst.
