Bristol City Match Fred on 15:47 - Dec 2 by Hunterhoop | And the situation we must avoid is being in or around the relegation zone with 8-10 games left, with the players and the manager knowing the manager won’t be here next season. The good players will know regardless of outcome they’ll be in the Championship again next season. They won’t want to risk injury in case it prevents a move. The weaker/younger players will know a new manager could clean house and the current one is a sitting duck. It’ll be nigh on impossible for any manager in that situation to have authority in the dressing room. It’ll be incredibly difficult to motivate and get results. As you say, the next month is really important if you play the scenarios out for the rest of the season. |
I know this might be a controversial viewpoint but maybe being near the drop zone with 8 games to go might not be such a bad thing. Seeing us play the last few seasons as though we had nothing to play for in mid table and losing about 6 games has been infuriating as we could have finished above 16th more than once but we just seem to switch off with 8 games to go. I would like to think in a relegation scrap we would fight for all 46 games rather than 38. I don't know why we lose concentration or why we seem to fade in the second half. Maybe it is the lack of a crowd to spur them on and focus on the task. I often felt when kicking towards the Loft in the second half we got stronger and played better. However, with no fans, there isn't that spur for us to play better in the second half when we kick towards the Loft, Watford excepted. All theory of course but difficult to explain why performance levels seem better in first half's this season. | | | |
