I must confess I know very little about Troy as a player but on the face of it pinning your hopes on a 17-year-old to replace Well's goals in the cut-and-thrust of the championship is a gamble.
Don't worry Benny. He's 18 next week. Problem solved.
Certainly a real talent. Definitely in the mould of what Warburton wants to do with players and playing style. Very very comfortable on the ball, almost Eze like at times. Big lad so definitely a target man as well.

The two times Ive seen him for Spurs reserves, he has impressed. Big and powerful and knows where the goal is. I heard he no longer plays for the under 23s and is in the first team squad regularly. I was shocked when I discovered his age, I thought he was about 21.
Four goals in four appearances for Ireland under 21s saw him make his full debut for Ireland just before Christmas. Aged 17 ?? Is this a record Brian McCarthy ??
I know almost nothing about the Premier League even though I try to catch the big games every now and then at the end of the season. But I will say this, Queens Park Rangers is just a fukking sick ass team name. Just sounds so cool.

Had to look that up. No, Robbie Keane was a month younger and we had a 15-yr old play for us in the early years.

Before we make sweeping judgements on 17 year olds that we probably haven't seen, it is worth remembering that Clive Allen was 17, Trevor Francis and the current kid at Birmingham (Bellingham, I think) were/are 16 and Pele won the world cup at 17. There are plenty of other examples as well, some go on to have great careers, whilst others fade away and slip down the pyramid.
I have no idea how good this lad is but if MW thinks he is worth bringing in then I am happy to see if he can play in our team.

Rooney was only 17 as well.
favourite cheese mature Cheddar. FFS there is no such thing as the EPL
I remember when Harry Kane was linked to us a few years back and many said we shouldn't sign him as he was no better than what we had and yet another Spurs man (I was probably one of them), best to see if it happens and if it does what he is like before judging him.

But his not our player and we won’t see the long term effects for our benefit He could come and just p1ss about , why not play smyth or oteh and develop them rather than a spurs 17 year old The club is moaning and groaning about Burnley stitching us up but we are the fools we are the ones who have show cased Wells and now Burnley will get 8 million for a bloke they were probably going to give away , the club is still being run in a two Bob way
And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

But the club is developing Oteh and Smyth. They are on loan at clubs at which they are likely to get a lot of playing time. This is the approach which has worked with Chair and Eze.
FFP makes it very difficult to bring in ready-made solutions. They are simply too expensive, hence the loans. OK, so Wells' loan has boosted his value but Rangers have benefited from his goals in the process.
The club is not being run in a two bob way. We now have players in the first team who have been given valuable experience out on loan, who are now first team regulars, and who now, themselves, are probably worth £8m each.
It's not that we haven't got money to spend, it's simply that we can't because the football authorities have decided that a FFP system based on a club's revenues is fair. It is not, it is biased towards "the big clubs," clubs whose grounds in some cases hold more than twice as many fans as ours.
"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

I think that’s a very harsh way of looking at it. Another viewpoint is that the club are doing their best in very difficult circumstances.
As for Oteh and Smyth in my opinion the best way of developing them is sending them out on loan where if they’re good enough and fit to play, they’ll get game time and improve.
I’m not crazy about the idea of the loan system either but it seems to be how most other clubs at our level are operating.

No different to Wells really, could easily get him on loan this season and again next year as we once did with Adel. I do agree about developing our own but think it would be a risk to go into second half of the season with Oteh as main back up striker. I'd have brought Smyth back instead of signing Clarke though

On that basis, every club in the land would be 'fools', by your logic, fpr loaning in players and seeing them prosper!
My real beef is that we are now looking likely to be minus the third top scorer in the Champ, without contingency plans, at the end of the window. What's the likelihood of anyone decent coming in to replace him at this stage? A Scottish First Division import or a 17 year old from Spurs would be gambles at best, though I guess that's the footballing casino we're playing in these days.
That said, Scowen and Wells off the books ought to free up wages and funds for us to do something, surely? (Maybe a spade from Woolies for Warren Farm?)

the ravings of a man teetering on the verge of genuine insanity. Seriously, are you ok paul? I tell you what - if they get £8m for Wells I will give you £8m myself. And Nahki Wells.
No thanks, I am sure he will be a great player in a few years but I would rather develop the players we own than those from Spurs. I don't mind a couple but we already have Amos, Clarke and Smith we are developing for other clubs to benefit
