10 outfielders playing their socks off again today. 1-0 up we are in control of the game. Lumley's limited brain function switched off yet again. Catches ball and brain decides to drop it. Second half ball comes across the goal, Lumley could have done something, anything - maybe even move, but no. He went into statue mode again. I keep scratching my head to try and remember a worse goalkeeper than this. Maybe Tony Roberts, but that's it. If we get decent money for Eze in January, we must use it to buy a half decent keeper. Team morale must be under serious pressure knowing that he will let at least two goals in every game. How do you motivate a team that knows that the guy in goal is useless.

I don't think he is useless but clearly as I have said in other threads his ability to concentrate like some others appears limited.

Never knowingly right.

No, I think he's just useless. No more chances after that today

It’s not just concentration, he’s a poor keeper.

Hugely disheartening to pay your money, watch them play oppo off the park for 30 minutes knowing if they ever do finally have an attack all the good work is likely to be for nothing.

We work our nuts off for a goal, opposition get gift after gift.

Goalkeeping demands an extra level of focus and attention, particularly when you've had little to do. Lumley may have the physical frame but mentally he comes across as a little immature. He may turn out to be a good goalkeeper in time but I just don't think he's ready for the demands of the championship right now.

Good or bad he seems really snakebit. Sometimes the only cure is a change of scenery. If we could do a swap for another keeper during the break it might be a good move.

He’s been given a fair crack but shown himself to be not good enough. How many goals/points has he cost us?

That being said it’s not his fault he’s been thrown in at a level or two above his ability. For the team’s and his own sake, he needs to be taken out of the firing line. The crowd’s patience is wearing thin and was starting to turn today.

I think it's a bit early for that. For now he needs to be benched for Kelly. Liam may not have the same physical stature but he is more mature, alert and reliable.

Whatever you think about lumley, if you think ten outfield players were working their socks off today, you may need to see a therapist 😉 his first mistake was a massive blow but the whole second half, we barely got out of second gear. Lazy performance and we deserved to lose because of that.

You can’t isolate the two - on the one hand it was a poor mistake, but on the other is didn’t matter because the team played poor the second half - the two are cause and effect. Imagine working that hard in the first half only to have all your work undone by yet ANOTHER terrible goalkeeping error. It must have completely knocked the wind out of the rest of the team.

I’m afraid he is useless. His distribution is erratic and he has given so many goals away. Yet another game where a Lumley howler immediately dissipated the positivity of the crowd and that had a big impact on the team. A loss always seems inevitable after his horrendous mistakes leading to a needless goal conceded.

All patience lost.

Goals change games and Hull had the opportunity to re-group at half-time after getting out of jail first half.

What about the world class saves he has made in the last few games. He most definitely isn't useless but like all players makes mistakes. Manning for instance should have stopped the cross coming in, and who was supposed to be marking for the second

People can’t keep pointing out the fact he makes some good saves as a defence of his. He’s a bloody goalkeeper, he’s supposed to make some saves!

I'm sorry but you can't defend Joe for the first goal. It was a routine cross that's food-and-drink for an amateur keeper. And it's not his first mistake this season, or even his second, third or fourth; he has made countless errors. I don't recall Chris Day or Lee Camp being so error prone.

Thought Lumley had a good game at Reading and made a couple of fine saves as well against Charlton. Today that howler for the first sapped the life out of the team and that pattern continued 2nd half, time for him to return to the bench. Have reservations about Kelly he looks too small and not very commanding, but that is the only option. Second goal down to non existent marking and Hull player being able to steal in unchallenged to score easily. Our future player recruitment policy needs to look at how we can get hold of taller more physical defenders and midfielders as we are out muscled by what seems to be teams of giants taking on hobbits week in week out.

I think his confidence has dropped massively this season for whatever reason. Last season he was so vocal, shouting instructions, talking to his defenders all game, this season quiet as. Running the clock down was another example of game management and confidence last year.

Today's mistake was one of a keeper lacking in confidence as he tried to catch it at arms length when he just needed to relax
and take it into chest.

So frustrating and feel for the lad as obviously cares but we can't continue gifting teams goals like today.

A good keeper must first and foremost be Commanding. He is not and I doubt he will ever be a Commanding goal keeper. There have been too many mistakes for us to ignore and tolerate.

He never stopped shouting and talking to the team all through the 2nd half,so you can’t level that at him.He has many faults but communicating with his teammates isn’t one of them.

Strange, I'd say his ability to command and communicate is one of his only above average skills. Good shot stopper and commands his area well, but error prone and has work to do on distribution. First step seems a little slow compared to other keepers.

SO essentially he is a young keeper in his first full season as first choice keeper in a poor to middling championship side and will make mistakes as he develops and matures.

Clearly time for torches and pitchforks.

Never knowingly understood

He's played 65 first team matches for us since he was signed so not exactly a rookie.

If his problem is confidence, which seems likely, then it's not going to improve sitting on the bench. He needs to play his way back into form but that can't happen at this level. He needs to go out on loan (yet again) or be transferred.

I cannot believe some of the comments, reasons, whatever on this thread. He is not good enough. Count how many goals he has cost us this season, let alone last season. Why are so many still wanting to give him more and more chances.

If he plays the next game then the reserve keeper might as well move on.
