Boro match thread on 17:01 - Nov 9 with 1797 views | qprd | Just saw we've conceded a second goal. i have not watched a second of this match, and i've hardly followed the match, so i will caveat this comment If you are not using all three of your substitutions, you are not managing your team correctly. This is basic, basic in-game management. Against Brentford, he also only made one change even while we were getting flogged in midfield and then chasing the game Can someone explain why he left an used substitute on the bench?
Boro match thread on 17:02 - Nov 9 with 1759 views | CLAREMAN1995 | 2 points out of a possible 12 and coughing up the lead today is not a great way to go into the break .Time to heal up and set up our new way of defending that we will need when the winter shows up .Its not going to be easy outscoring our errors at the back in a foot of snow or a blizzard . Still its exciting at least
Boro match thread on 17:06 - Nov 9 with 1684 views | stainrods_elbow | Four games, two draws, two defeats, five scored, nine conceded. Porous. Will be listening to Warburton's post-match interview carefully. That has to be easily the most disappointing outcome of the lot, and just what we didn't need going into the Fulham game, with Forest to follow. We just don't seem to be improving at the back at all, or to be able to defend properly against anyone. Now down to 10th, and it's all our own fault.

I'm not sure I agree with that. You only use a sub if, having looked at the set-up of both teams and the form and fitness of your players, you think that using a sub would make you better for the rest of the game. I'm not sure what third swap would have done that for us today.

Not sure I necessarily agree with this, especially in a game which is level. With one sub left, if a goal goes in with a few minutes left you give yourself the option of adding a striker if you concede or a defender if you score. More flexibility.

I think our defensive problems stem from our lack of control in midfield. We're not dominating possession, teams often run right through our midfield like drugged-up streakers, and if we bought Moore, Maldini, McGrath and Cafú they'd be under pressure too.

What's to be done given our seemingly hopeless financial position?? Would be so good to get rid of our Charity Park Rangers tag.

Yeah, there's no magic fix for us, is there? We're a team of two parts, the dodgy, slow defensive and midfield core and the exciting forwards and wings. How does MW steel up the former without sacrificing the latter? I suppose we nurture, sell, spend a bit and hopefully go on an upward gradient. He's doing bloody well with what he was left.

Not sure where you're getting that from. The two choices as far as attacking would have been Wells or Eze - a goal scorer or a creator. I'd have liked to see Bright come on myself but can see an argument for not taking either off. Hugil for Chair was obvious I thought. Scowen for the spurs kid less so but that was probably fitness.

I don't think replacing existing players is the answer. The errors are so consistent, and from so many different players they must be down to coaching. And no, I'm not saying replace Warburton, he's done plenty that's right. But it's clear that our improvement going forward is matched by our nervousness and lack of cohesion when the oppo has the ball. Last season at this stage we had an unimaginative but reliable defence, one of the best in the division, we just couldn't score. Now it's the opposite. IIRC John Eustace was the defensive coach back then, I don't know whether that's still the case. If not then maybe it should be. [Post edited 9 Nov 2019 17:51]

Boro match thread on 17:45 - Nov 9 with 1337 views | The_Seer | The defence is poor however the situation isn't made any easier by having a lack of leadership and a weak central midfield. The opposition continually dominate in central midfield. An area which is supposed to be the engine of a team and it's driving force.

Is our financial position hopeless? I am sure given the freedom to do so the club would be able to compete in the transfer market.

I think thats because he manages to get something on balls other players wouldnt get near!

I know he scored that good header against Blackburn when Manning stood one up for him, and I know he's a tall and a good hold up man but that doesn't mean that headers are his thing. In fact I've got a feeling he likes the ball on the ground.

Don't need to be much of a coach to say 'Do NOT pass to opposition forward' Some, no let me correct that, most goals are down to individual errors.
