Of course i can understand, it's simple enough, but it's management waffle at it's best.Everything I detest about British and American management.

If nothing else the education they receive may teach them the difference between ‘their’ and ‘they’re’.

I wouldn't bet on it.

This is part of the issue, the system is geared to get as many through Uni by any means necessary rather than looking at the national skills shortage and offer the incentives through what is needed. May come as a shock but an English media degree is worth jack sh1t in the wider world where we are short of carers, engineers, doctors, welders, finance etc.

Instead of going to gain a qualification in something that is worthless, they’d be better off getting a trade.

You mean like the 1000's of uni graduates who can't find a job yet end up doing zero hours to just get by. Or the single parent unable to afford further education.

You really don't live in the real world do you?

I have seen a tv report that, while partially saying what you did, also pointed out degree educated people who wouldn't take jobs because they were below them. One ex student actually said it in an interview, that working in a phone shop was below his standard, he had a degree.
Maybe I'm just too old fashioned but a job is a job and you take what you can get and work upwards.
At some point in life, if needs be, you can afford it or because you'll be happier, you may take a step down the career ladder. My wife did that. She has a degree, she used to be a HR advisor in the NHS which was band 5, now she is a band 3 clerical officer. A much easier, less stressful job. We will hopefully have taught our son that no honest job is below him.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

That’s such an honest and refreshing approach Catullus.

You 100% have to be HAPPY in your job whatever it’s moneterial rewards, I experienced the same myself and after a 36 year career am now enjoying the trappings of Retirement whilst still being (relatively !) fit and healthy 👍 can’t recommend it enough !

Good post.

There's no doubt though that the Blair mantra of "everyone MUST go to university" has affected the economy. A lot of those who did go and are now doing menial jobs would have been better off learning a trade like plumbing or electrics . If we're having to import tradesmen from the continent and we have degree holders working in call centres or shops it simply shows we've failed in maximising their potential with respect to strengthening our economy.

My older sister took a degree when she ws a nurse. In turn she became an Oncology specialist nurse, she needed the degree to get the promotion. My younger sister did an Art degree and nwo she's a teacher....an Art teacher, it's pretty much the only job that degree is useful for. We need to limit the number of largely useless degrees, in my opinion.
Also in my opinion, instead of training (not teaching) kids to pass exams, we should be saying to less educationally capable kids lets concentrate on core subjects and start some vocational training. Lets start school based apprenticeships so kids leave school with skills that really will help.
Imagine being a 17 year old in Bridgend, wouldn't 2/3 years of motor mechanics be useful right now? Maybe we need to get the big companies involved to advise on what to teach, it's in their interests too.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

It's very unlikely you will get on in industry without a degree. Not impossible if you are a good net worker or an accomplished nosher, but there is a glass ceiling for those without a degree.

But still, will an Art degree, or media studies help you very much? Besides which, if you have a trade, or are most of the way to being fully trained and qualified upon leaving school isn't that better for those who aren't very academically inclined?

Well at least brexit wasn't to blame for Ford closing

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-48914809

But as it has closed, any new business starting up in that area will be welcome, they'll probably have a good supply of appropriately skilled workers anyway. Regardless it is a boost, specially given that unemployment over all has dropped since March,

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-49002609

Or is no good news welcome?

Bridgend's MP blames Brexit on everything, she is the biggest remainer of all MP's.

Hope her constituents vote her out in the next election.

Even "more amusing" is that the parent company is registered in the Isle of Man and they, also, pay no tax. But it's fine with that prick(DGT/Jacks777) who sees guys and companies like his (Ratcliffe/Ineos) as the lifeblod of this coutry. Cúnts, one and all.

Would love to know the subsidy the Welsh government have agreed to in order to secure this "investment".

These companies are generally parasites that move around looking for the best subsidy and then up sticks and move on elsewhere when it runs out.

The system is broken.

Of course they are. They'll need more sweeteners to settle here if we don't have current levels of access to the EU single market. It's obvious. They don't wear their union jack boxers to breakfast like the Brexiteers. They want access to a large market, low costs and ideally a few grants to settle down. In return we get jobs. It does stink, but it's the way it is.

The system is definitely the problem. Until it's fixed to the betterment of everyone the rich will continue to play it.
The good part is the jobs it will bring. Jim Ratcliffe will always find a way to avoid tax as long as governments don't shut the loopholes.

So what has Ineos tax payments got to do with this particular thread ?
But since you touched on the issue of tax ,personally I think everyone should pay as little tax as possible, after all the way governments waste money is scandalous.

What is "as little tax as possible"?

How do you expext the maintenance of the national infrastructure, NHS, education and State Pension to be funded without a reasonable level of taxation?
