No, we still need him in case of injuries. If he stays fit I'd have him in the team ahead of Lynch
Grant Hall on 12:07 - Jan 7 with 928 views | Tonto | Furlong's further development into a CB rather than just an RB as he has been previously does change the equation somewhat. Ask yourself this - which would be your starting two CBs next year out of choice? Its probably BFG plus one of the others and to me Furlong may be ahead in that. So - you always need at least 2 other CBs because CBs get a lot of bookings and injuries. Would any of those out of contract (other than Baptise) actually want to be a back up? What wages are they on? Does that represent value for money? Would they get any other offers? If I were LH or evil LF, I would be inclined to offer Lynch and Hall new contracts, but certainly not at any price. Maybe a "home club discount" in the case of Hall given we have stood by him? But I don't know if any of you would take a pay cut to do the same job... It will be an interesting off season as far as the defence goes...

What makes you say that Dave?. Leistner and Lynch seem to have struck up a decent partnership. We're not shipping in goals anymore. Whose to say Hall and Leistner would be as effective. Individualy maybe Hall is a better all round player but i remember seeing him getting turned as well.

I wouldn't change it at the moment I just think Hall is a better player than Lynch so just personal preference really

I think Furlong's pace is an asset that none of the other CB's have. If Furlong were to be picked at CB we could move the line up and help our overall game. At the moment, though, we need to be sure that Kakay or someone else would be ok at RB.

Yep, agreed. To me, Furlong stills needs to develop quite a bit. He is really really good in the air. He's good at last ditch defending, he's fast and shows leadership qualities. But his passing game is way too deficient at this stage to be a centre back. He is not comfortable with the ball at his feet and his first thought at centreback is always to clear his lines or play it long. No one is saying he needs to be Grant Hall on the ball. But he needs to develop this side of his game before he becomes a steady centreback. At right back, given how forward he can get with his pace, he can develop his short passing game. if he loses the ball up the pitch, its not a total disaster given his positioning. But as a centreback, we don't him only going long... but if he makes a mistake on the ball and gives it away, we're exposed. let him develop his confidence on the ball and then think abut shifting him to centreback

Agree with that - a fully fit Hall would be better than Lynch. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yes, we definitely struggle with a lack of pace at the back against some teams because we sit too deep if they have pacy forwards.

long term i do think he'll end up a centre half but for this season would probably keep him at right back
