Let's hope he is. I think Ferdinand has done a fine job and I wouldn't trust the board to appoint a comparable successor.

I don't think they would replace him. We're accelerating back towards 'what manager wants manager gets' model anyway. Ramsay would oversee the academy, McClaren would ascend to manager rather than head coach (which is how he's approached it anyway) and Hoos would do the business side.

Ferdinand will go soon anyway, as you say we are back to the manager model and when Warnock comes back he'll want total control. 4 years work down the toilet

Well for the last 4 managers we've blamed them for their apparent failings whilst in the back of our minds I suspect most of us were also wondering whether it was really their fault or down to what was going on above them. Right or wrong, I believe you need a manager with direct responsibility for the team he puts together. Give the man a budget and tell him what he says goes. A la Warnock in the promotion season. After 4 years I'm still in a fog as to actually what Les does or is accountable for.

What manager wants manager gets is lethal for a club like QPR in the modern era. We sack managers way too often, so what manager wants is always going to be something that helps for the next four games and bolox to anything after that because if he loses the next four games he gets the sack - in four games time he'll just want something for the next four games anyway. What manager wants will always be a new signing, preferably a striker, but we can't afford these. You end up making him signings you can't afford, supporting a squad and wage bill you can't afford, and having all sorts of discarded players kicking around pissd off that they're not involved. You also end up with a squad made up of layers and layers of quick fixes that various managers of different styles wanted at various points of crisis in their reign. You end up with players seeing out contracts, or paying people to leave. We had all of that before Ferdinand started his job. We need to be boxing really clever at the moment, thinking really strategically about where exactly we're going to be in 18-36 months time when we have no parachute payments trying and compete in a league where 80% of the teams are going to be able to spend more than us under FFP. Turning your entire club strategy over to somebody like Steve McClaren and giving him everything he wants is not boxing clever, it's bloody stupid.

Les is already losing power the last 2 appointments were not his choices and the list of players scouted by him and penrice were turned down by mcclown I dont blame the bloke for going to partures new I would if that idiot fernades kept going over my head and messing up the good work done in the last 4 years This club really does lurch from one disaster to the next , I think if les goes that’s me done until TF and friends sell up
| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

stevec's response to the realities of FFP is basically to ignore it and say we should sign all our players from our league or the premier league, unfortunately. Les has overseen huge changes in how the club is run - just have a look at how many players are coming from the youth sides now compared to when he came before. he's put a scouting structure in place. He's presided over, with Hoos, halving the playing staff wages budget, and then doing so again, without relegation (yet!). Ask other clubs who came out of the Prem how easy that is. Have all our signings been great? No. But at the same time those bad signings are not costing us £40k+ a week anymore. Every single club makes poor signings and signings that don't work. Even Warnock spent £1m on Hulse and was then allowed to go out and get Ishmael Miller because Hulse wasn't up to it. And that's before you even start to talk about the work he's done turning the club back into a Community club. Frankly Les has done a phenomenal job and it baffles me why people are so hostile towards him. I have some suspicions why some are so hostile, mind, and it ain't because he grew up a Spurs fan. Wouldn't be shocked to see the FA go for him, especially if Les feels he's being elbowed aside by McClaren, who may well end up being an inferior manager to the one we had last year. And that could mean we lose Ramsey too. Worrying times.

Shame you ruined a good argument with that penultimate paragraph. No doubt Les has done good work at the club but ultimately his time as Director of Football has seen us go from 16th in the Premier to 16th in the Championship. That in the end is what a Director gets judged on. [Post edited 26 Sep 2018 15:12]

Hope Les stays as we have big challenges ahead loss of parachute money FFP fine a constant struggle to stay in the league dropping attendances we need people like Les who know the club in what will be a difficult time ahead. The philosophy of blooding the youngsters developing players and selling on will be critical. Not too mention ensuring we do not repeat the mistakes of the past ala HR MH etc.plus keeping MacLaine in check.

In farness the penultimate paragraph said that he had suspicions about "some", so not aimed at you or anyone in particular. I don't agree that the DoF is judged on league position, certainly shouldn't be in our club where the failings of people above an below Ferdinand could certainly have put the club out of business. It is because of Ferdinand and Hoos that we have not had to worry about that.

Evil Les leaving? on 17:04 - Sep 26 with 3554 views | Dorse | I'm not convinced we are in a position to let Les go. His influence, or lack thereof, on McLaren notwithstanding, he has a new Chairman in the shape of Amit to work with. Whether McLaren was anyone's first choice is a moot point, as is whether the club could afford to bring more / different / better players in: we brought in what we could afford without going into dangerous FFP territory. I don't believe that Cameron or Rangel were high up anybody's wish list going into the season but Wells and Hemed look good business, and would look even better if we'd been able to shift Sylla as well as Washington. I don't think McLaren has the chops to get us into the top half, as things stand. By the same token, having a team like Les, Lee Hoos and Amit balancing out his propensity to make hideous transfer decisions might actually mitigate his perpetual fcukwittery and turn what could have been 16th with a bloated, overpriced / paid playing squad that has no sell-on value into the sunlit uplands of 16th with a trim squad that keeps the club afloat for the next couple of years. Les has explained his role so many times now that it almost sounds like people think he's joking! When you see what could have happened under Arry 'Oooh-me-fackin-knees-Rosie' Redknapp, if checks and balances hadn't been in place, it makes you kind of glad Les was around. I would hate to let McLaren, the football equivalent of beige, have a free rein and have to reinforce the sub's bench in order to accommodate Chris 'Not ColdPlay' Martin, the only footballer to have his own gravitational pull.
