Yes that's a fair point, but wonder if it could be made simpler by stating exact distance, attackers must retreat when GK has the ball in his hands - its 2 metres now for a throw in, so maybe 3 or 4 for GKs.

This example would still be a goal for me though - the attacker slightly raises his foot a millisecond before Karius releases the ball, but its marginal at best - that's why 8/10 refs said it was a goal!

I don't see why there is a need to have a rule to prevent what Benzema did. The keeper can pick the ball up and run anywhere in the box with it. It wasn't like Benzema was right in his face not allowing him to throw the ball or move to the left or right to kick it.

If he's stupid enough to try and roll the ball underarm to a teammate while an opposition player is standing in a position to put his foot out and block the throw then that's the keeper's problem. Why didn't he just to the semi-overarm throw - Benzema wouldn't have got anywhere near that.
