Millwall match on 13:44 - Sep 8 by Northernr | There does seem to be a growing movement, and it will grow further after the ridiculous scenes at Bournemouth last week, to stop criminalising football fans. Cardiff, where there used to be loads of trouble, have found that by treating the away fans with respect, letting them drink, stewards wearing their colours, be polite, let them drink where they like etc that it's actually reduced trouble there massively. If you shove fans about, pen them in, be really heavy handed with them it's actually often counter productive. Whether this applies to Millwall or not I don't know. |
There's definitely something in that. It got a tad heated at Millwall in 2010/11 only due to the fact we were all herded like animals in that pen

Millwall match on 12:11 - Sep 8 by LythamR | Just posted QPR1st and the LSA met representatives of the club, the police and Millwall fans. Based on current intelligence the police have said that their response will be ‘graduated and proportionate’. There will be no specific escort of Millwall fans to the ground although officers will be stationed at key points. Millwall fans will not be held back at the end of the game. The club has confirmed that Ellerslie Road will be the only entry/exit point for Millwall fans. At the end of the match they will be directed towards Bloemfontein Road. QPR fans are advised by the police to arrive early and those in Ellersie Road to leave in the direction of Loftus Road. QPR1st representatives suggested keeping Millwall fans in after the match for a short period to minimise contact between the two sets of fans. It is understood that this option will only be considered if there is trouble on the night prior to the match ending. |
So to get into ER from the Bloemfontain Rd end, we will have to walk round the whole ground once and to get back to my car I have to walk round it once more. Last time they were here we had no option of turning into LR and back up SA Rd on the way home, having to walk up the Uxbridge Rd and back down Bloemfontain Road anyway. What a joke!

I sit in R block and remember what you describe. Ironically we were directed by the police to where the Millwall fans are. The police stated that this time there was no intention of stopping qpr fans turning left into LR when leaving ER> Hopefully this will be the case

This all gives these cretins what they want and their cred. If they were serious about eradicating problems from these pikeys then everyone would take the same approach as Leeds. Christ they make it proper hard for any fans from Millwall visiting there to have a good away trip and virtually impossible for any contact. Unfair? Where else do you get coralled up, kept in a pen, given specific route you HAVE to travel and generally treated like a criminal no matter who you are just to keep you apart from the home fans? Oooh yeah - at the New Den of course! As for keeping these idiots in for 20 minutes. Just how much of the away end do you think will be left? Would you want to be a steward? For me they should be package tickets only -- you can only enter if you get off an escorted coach and they are kept kettled up all the way in and out.

The winner will receive a free ticket to see the movie of their choice with BBC Sports Presenter Karthi Gnanasegaram. That should keep them busy for a bit.

On your last point. A couple of weeks ago, Burnley did exactly this when playing Blackburn in the cup. They bussed 5000 Burnley fans to the game. Coach travel news compulsory and you could only get into the game if you had traveled on one of the organised coaches.
Millwall match on 17:53 - Sep 9 with 2591 views | themodfather | imo again police just melt when it;s millwall and again imo make it harder on home fans..... just limit the away numbers from them to registered fans on a "loyalty scheme" , so those who are proper nowty can't go.....like england fans thing, any trouble, banned and no tickets. then if no trouble, increase numbers of tickets and so on.

I remember reading a couple of years ago a Burnley fan who lived in Blackburn had to travel to Burnley to get the coach back to Blackburn to get in. Ridiculous

The Len Julians coin throwing game too, it happened right in front of me on the south africa road terraces. A bloke was cut just under the eye; and the fans wanted to get on the pitch and lynch him. Happy days!
