All season I've been behind Nigel Clough, looking for the positives in the performances, and hoping that we'd get to the point where we at least look like a side even if we don't necessarily look like a great side. After last night's pathetic showing, I'm afraid I've given up. I can understand that we have no money. I can understand that we don't have expensive players, therefore we don't have fantastic players. I can understand that sometimes we will get beaten by better teams with better players. I can't understand putting out a side that is clueless, undrilled, unbalanced, and (at best) inept. I can't understand how having our one (average) left back injured means we have to rejig the back line again. I can't understand why we have to move our most consistent performer (Brayford) to a position he's not suited to, and stick another player at right-back who's not a right-back. I don't understand why we haven't got anyone else in the club who is a left back. The reserves have one, the U18s have one. Play a left back at left back. I can't understand why players have lost the ability to do what they are employed to do. I can't understand why Barker is half the player he was. I can't understand why Savage can play one fantastic cross field ball, and about 80-odd appalling ones. I can't understand why Bueno and Cwyka aren't at the level they were. I can't understand what possible question there could be where a reasonable answer is "Pearson". I can't understand why the "best dead-ball player outside the top two divisions" can't clear the first defender. I can't understand why you respond to going 2-0 down by taking a striker off. I can't understand being beaten (and let's be honest, 3-1 was a let off) soundly by a team like Doncaster. Nothing against them, but there not a great side, and they didn't play well. They don't have great players either. But they do look like they know what to do, even though it may sometimes not be within their ability. And there's the difference. Derby don't know what they're supposed to be doing. Hence another 90 minutes without what you'd call a proper attack. I'm half expecting Nigel to pack it in. If he'd have done that yesterday I'd have been sorry. If he does it today, I won't give a monkeys. | |
