Chris Ramsey 22:16 - Jun 18 with 12609 viewsNorthernr

Bit of a pet peeve of mine this since that disgusting MK Dons game, and it is a Guardian link so apologies Mailmen, but this reflects very well on our club

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jun/18/qprs-chris-ramsey-reflects-ment

Michael Calvin's most recent book on academy football - which basically savages the whole system as a cynical, greedy form of child exploitation - has good words to say about Ramsey and QPR. Imagine that, a book about how dreadful youth football is run in this country that singles out QPR as a case of good practice.

You rarely see, hear or read anything bad about Chris Ramsey except from QPR fans on social media and message boards. While accepting that first team manager wasn't the job for him - classic QPR of employing a great person in the right role and then shuffling him into the wrong job in a short term panic - I still don't think he did as badly at it as some people make out. The stick he got then, and this ongoing lingering idea that he's only here because he's Les' mate, he must be rubbish because some of the youth teams lose all the time, Tottenham mafia, black agenda etc etc seems to be obviously rubbish to me.

Interested on Smegma's perspective if he's around as he watches the youth set up far more than I do but Ramsey seems like a good egg we're lucky to have to me...

I agree!

Whilst I was one of his critics (possibly the biggest) I did always maintain that the appointment was terrible by the club as it was a "double jeopardy"
I felt we'd have to sack him eventually and it meant we'd not only lose a Manager (of which he was crap) but we'd lose the most highly respected yoot coach in the game. I never imagined he'd stay at the club after a sacking but I am glad he did.

Fair play to him and the club.

(Did I just type that?!?!..........)

And while fully accepting I don't think first team manager is the job for him - we scored more goals and were higher in the league under him than we've managed since under JFH or IH.

Chris Ramsey is one of the best coaches in Britain, but he is a nice guy. Nice guys rarely make it in football management.

Glad to hear we are doing something right and have made use of a specialist from Brunel.

I see that the article mentions a 12-year old getting a cruciate ligament injury. One thing I remember from the ACL Solution is that the author mentions that in the US a lot of young kids are getting ACL injuries:

Nice to know people always respected Ramsey's strengths as a youth coach, and what a pity it would have been to lose him from the club completely.

So Benny the Super Yoof coach has deigned that the club will religiously play 4-3-2-1 or 4-3-3
Clearly this system can work if your full backs are quality and the midfield 3 work like Trojans plus have pace and physique.
...
It's embarrassing that our players, no matter age or experience, could not make Benny the Super Yoof Coach's system work but like I say I don't blame them, the man in the straight jacket set them up and they're not suited to it.
...
The players don't look like they believe in Benny or his ideas, that or they are confused. I do also wonder if the word I heard tonight that Benny has developed a very aloof manner since appointed has any weight -- it would explain a lot about the man.
....
I hear all the usual guff about time needed, that fcukin "gel" word and all that; but I've seen nothing from Benny to convince me he's the man to steady this peddlo or find still waters. He has shown me ineptitude, stubbornness, a bit of an old boys favour approach and also is so negative in persona it's unreal

The man is clueless or stubborn

I'll add to this when I've calmed down but if you saw anything positive in his selection, tactics or change tonight I'd love to hear from you (Antti)

Do us a favour though fella, when you pack up the woolly hat and the 4-2-3-1 tactics board....take your son Karl with please?

You have the horn for me donchya fella?

It's quite amusing really. Not too sure how all this internet stalking works - can you search all my posts or do you have them all saved so you can look over them whilst sticking pins into an effigy of Mussolini which has L-Block written on it???
Do us a favour, in the interest of balance, comradeship and the common good; dig up a couple where I was less drunk, angry or emotive, where I said he was a great yoof coach, be a shame to lose him from the club etc, etc. Could ya?
Never mind.

I'm off to bed now. Hard day ahead tomorrow

Fear not. A new season dawns where I'll be embarrassing myself with statements of must win games, silly nicknames, over the top knee jerk reactions and drunken rambles. All for your viewing pleasure
That pleasure being to look for more ammo for your agenda.

Love and hugs X

This is why I have a policy of only posting undiluted internet gold.

Re Ramsey it is nice to read positive things about him. I've actually heard him mentioned a couple of times on football podcasts in glowing terms over the past season, which is always odd given the grief he gets amongst the fan base, like you say.

Its not a left or right thing Northern. Its about posters who think theyve got a superior intelligence trying to muffle out normal blokes that want a say in all things QPR and general non QPR stuff.. .

And can Corbyn heal the afflicted? (Either using the NHS or with the laying on of hands).

I think Danny was right, Lblock is a reactionary poster and deserves to have it highlighted, fair enough it can spark a bit of debate and you can claim you have passion etc but equally if you're found to have been wrong its right that you're reminded.

Reactionary?

Errrmm.. yep. That's kind of what many, many, many of the human race do - react to situations.
As well as having a consistent view there is the ability to duck and swerve

I must have these football message boards all wrong. I thought they were a place to vent, read the views of others, catch up on news, have a debate, have the craic etc. This place also having the side benefits of a wealth of general knowledge etc

It's not Vanilla World and thank goodness for that.

I'll state again, I'm on record as to Ramsey's abilities as a youth coach, I haven't the time to trawl back and find that but I guarantee I posted it.

Now back to my commute into the City and to finish this great book I'm reading at the moment, it's called "How to Develop Considered Opinions and Talk to People"..... I'm not too sure if it's any good and I don't think it'll have a very good ending

Along with Northern, being one of the apparently few folk who have actually read the latest Michael Calvin book, it does underline just what piss poor support is given to kids by the clubs these days when there are greater stresses being exerted upon them.

It is to Rangers and Ramseys credit that we are working in a manner which is being recognised by Calvin and The Guardian.

The book should be mandatory reading for the parents, family or even friends of kids who are being offered trials or contracts by clubs.
