Swans memories of a special person... 07:54 - Apr 21 with 8574 viewsStarsky

She came with me to watch the Swans get trounced 4-1 at Walsall (Fellows Park)

Was there with my dad in the West stand for Tosh's first game against Watford in 1978

When I arrived back home from THE Preston game in 1981, She decorated my bed with Swans towels and other memorabilia

When my son was the Swans mascot, she came to the hospitality meal after the game against Barnet and nearly fell down East Bank steps after drinking most of the wine from 2 tables.

When she had Dementia, she started supporting Chelsea and loved Fat Frank.

RIP mum... you were the best!

Sympathy to you and your family Starsk.

Lovely words by the way.

RIP

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

Beautiful tribute, mate. Sorry for your loss. Cherish those good memories, they'll eventually trump the pain. It doesn't necessarily ever get 'easier" but it does become the new normal and you deal with it. I still spend some time each day thinking about my mam and I still occasionally find myself in tears while doing so. Stay strong.

Nicely worded, the "new normal" is exactly how it feels after a while. Stay strong Starsky.

Condolences, Chris. Lovely tribute.

I still chuckle thinking about my mother getting to her feet at Wembley when the "Stand up if you hate Cardiff" chant went up.

Townhill girl, see.

Sorry to hear Starsky.

We have had our differences on here, mostly you being a pompous ass to me, but this is a forum online and not real life.

Losing such a close loved one is the most devastating pain, especially one with an illness, and I feel for you. Having dealt with this recently myself, I can assure you it never gets easier to deal with. The immediacy of the pain will eventually subside but you will always miss them, and they will never be back. It sucks, "God" sucks, and life is meaningless.

The good memories will always be there to comfort you, though, and it sounds like you are doing a good job of that already. Keep pictures around and talk openly of her to others, and it will feel a little better. This is obvious but really does help.

I know you've dealt with loss before and I am not trying to be your therapist. But just know you're not alone, and it will get better with time. My condolences for your loss.

Fair play that gave the biggest laugh of the day.

You're right, I can be a pompous ass and I look forward to our debates in the future.
Edit... just to add... thank you for your thoughtful words. Much appreciated.

"When she had Dementia, she started supporting Chelsea and loved Fat Frank".

I love that.

It's those funny memories that keep us going in terrible times. It's amazing how much laughter there is at funerals as we all remember that sort of thing.

Bless your Mum Starsky. She sounds fantastic.

She's always hated Wayne Rooney. I don't know why.

A month ago we were watching footy on the TV and Rooney was playing, she shouted "that Rooney, he gets right up my arse!"

Another time I got popcorn to watch the footy with her on TV and she exclaims excitedly " I love 'cockporn' could eat it all day" I nearly choked on mine.

She was a star.

It's at times like this you realise, Planet Swans really does have some very nice people posting.

Even though at times when reading them would suggest otherwise.

A lovely tribute to your mum Starsky.

You'll miss her, and it's difficult for me personally to say that time will heal. At times you will feel that it's so hard to get over the fact that your mum is not here anymore.

You may not get over it, but you will get better at dealing with it.

I send my condolences to you, your friends, and your family.

Appreciate those you still have while honouring and remembering those you don't. Life is way too fragile for anything else. Chin up mate. x

Well then it got the intended response, glad you got a chuckle or two. The thoughts are my own and felt you might be able to relate. Glad you could.

We can all be an ass at times, some are just better than others. Take some time off to recharge and I look forward to you being one of those chosen few again.

P.S. Thanks for the thoughtful and kind PM, much appreciated.
