The Draw 18:45 - Dec 5 with 20953 views | Yorkshire_Dale | Only a few minutes off, but we will have to endure all usual BBC crap sucking up to Stevie G and Ian Right Right Wright before the proper stuff. Far too much farting around, just get on with it. HOME draw please.

The Draw on 20:47 - Dec 5 by BigDaveMyCock | Yeah but it's not worth getting worked up or miserable about it is it? I think we'd have all loved United or City but we didn't so let's make the best out of it. Glass half full mate. [Post edited 5 Dec 2016 20:48]

I'm neither worked up nor miserable. My post was a direct response to someone saying they would rather this kind of draw than one of the big clubs. The draw is, of course, preferable to playing a league 1 / championship team with less chance of progression.

The Draw on 21:12 - Dec 5 by Clivert | I reckon we've had 14 ties in round 3 or further since that Man Utd game in 1986. |
In those 14 ties some bigish teams as well with decent away followings and good games both home and away. 6 of those are accounted for in 2 seasons ,i still think we have had some big names and better than average luck of the draw.

As far as I can remember , off the top of my head, with the big teams involved, since Liverpool, we've drawn Charlton a, Preston a, Coventry h, Wolves a, Leeds h, Sheffield W h, Nottingham forest h, Stoke h, Barrow a. (obviously that involves 4th and 5th rnd) [Post edited 5 Dec 2016 21:25]

The Draw on 21:05 - Dec 5 by AtThePeake | You're guaranteed more gate money if the game is away though, it's never totally guaranteed that it'll be selected on TV. |
Drawing a bigger team on their own patch makes a live game even less likely. Rochdale arent a big enough pull to get a decent enough crowd that we could make a killing on gate receipts either, its the glamour that is appealing, but id rather wait and get as far as possible before drawing the biggies.

The Draw on 21:11 - Dec 5 by olympicdale | Yes, it annoys me because it always feels like the fans wanting those types of games are more interested in Ibra an Pogba etc, then going to watch Dale, im not putting you in that category, it just frustrates me. |
But why? I can only think of Chaff who posts on here where that might apply - and even then I would bet he would be equally interested in Dale players as those in red. That's why I would want to see us play a team like Man U. Our young academy products against the likes of Pogba and Ibra - and the chance of them excelling. Mourinho and Hill stood side by side on the touchline, battling wits. Come on, how can that not appeal?

I agree I do want to see Baldy Mourinho and Moaninho stood side by side, that alone, is an appealing aspect. I, am merely thinking about getting as far as we can, and, playing sides like Barrow, gives us a better chance, and gives the club more money for each round you overcome.

We could beat Barrow, then beat Lincoln in round 4 but then go out to Ipswich in round 5 and make no where near as much money from a round 3 defeat at Old Trafford.

The Draw on 20:07 - Dec 5 by BigDaveMyCock | On a positive note the tie will not provide the slightest distraction for the players during the busy festive period. Not a great draw for a few teams to be fair. Accy will be disappointed with Luton at home and I've got a Macc supporting colleague who, if they get past Oxford, will not be feeling all cup-tastic about Rotherham away. |
Most of the 'smaller' clubs will be underwhelmed with the draw. Barrow probably thinking what if Carlisle had turned us over to set up a Cumbrian derby.

Get the coach if it's running, or hitch a lift. The last 30 minutes is quite a nice drive across the southern edge of the Lake District.

If you look at it that way, with Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool all at home to lesser opposition and City and Arsenal having a good chance of progressing against West Ham and Preston - were we to get through the odds of getting a cracker in round 4 look a whole lot better.

Yup, but from a Dale perspective, as much as we would like to play the Bobby Dazzlers, the flip side of the draw is that the team have got nothing that may distract them from focusing on staying in or around the playoffs into the new year. The risk of being banned or picking up an injury and missing, with all due respect, Barrow away is not quite as devastaing as missing the once in a lifetime, which it will be for most of them, chance of having the opportunity to play at Old Trafford or going toe to toe with the likes of David Silva etc. A massive tie may be a bit all consuming. Why not be consumed with the play-offs, we are in them after all and the brilliant Checkakhan Cup remember, well until tomorrow, sorry footy gods.

I'm not sure that's true, off the top of my head I can certainly remember Crawley, Cambridge and Burton Albion all being live on TV at Old Trafford in recent years. Sure it's the same with other clubs but can remember United's clearly. One or two may have been replays but they were certainly live on TV at Old Trafford. As for the crowd. Well, looking at the three fixtures I've just mentioned there: Crawley - 74,778 Cambridge - 74,511 Burton Albion - 53, 564. I know that's only looking at games involving Man Utd but they were the team using as an example so I thought I'd use it too. That voice of reason really is persistent mate.

Regrettable that we are never going to win it.. Whilst progress to round 5 is appealing maxing out on revenue cannot be sniffed at.. And what a day out ( OT / Emirates ) Can't see one post wanting United at OT just to watch United OD. You had a drink last night or where you just on one?. Back to Barrow... Tough but winnable!! Could have been a Lot Lot worse..
