Conor Washington 01:36 - Mar 26 with 7818 viewssuperhoopdownunder

Conor joined us just after Charlie left to go to Southampton and was expensive at somewhere between 2.5m and 3m

He has played in 8 games so far without scoring.
I have read and listened to fans who have said our system of 1 up front does not suit him - it is working out better for Polter in that role.
Also from reports I read he did not play well for Northen Ireland the other night.

Do you think Conor will make the step up from League One to Championship and hopefully Premiership with us or not?

Good on Iron for taking the punt on him when he hasn't yet shown us what he's capable of. It certainly paid off.

All looks good for us, too.

Nice one Conor, well played son!

So one of our squad players gets MOM in an international match. Just goes to show we are still a powerhouse of world football! 'Ave it!

Great finish but just look at how he uses his body to make space. That first defender pretty much bounced off him!

Good on him. Nice to see one of the Rs playing international football again.

How much did we actually pay for him? Not as much as mentioned in first post I hope?

I've only seen his home appearances but I liked what I saw. Great touch and awareness. Give him a chance for heaven's sake!

A front 3 of Seb, Chery and Washington would be interesting.

How is he being used for NI? Did anyone actually watch the game?

It's been a slow start for Washington, but he's also had the misfortune to start in games where the other 10 players haven't shown up.

Hopefully he'll get some more pitch time and maybe break his goal duck for us over the last stretch of the season and be ready to make a big impact next season.

first game against Wales he was used in a front two with Lafferty looking for knock downs,he chased and put pressure on the back four with strong closing down, made some good runs behind the back four the back four and made two decent chances for himself.
Last night against a tall Slovenia defence he was deployed in a front two with the smaller Ward.Ran tirelessly and more balls played to feet.he showed pace, strength and energy.created a great chance for himself by beating a defender inside the box and bought a great save from the keeper. the goal as seen above showed his best attributes on the night.
got mucked in when a couple of Slovenians were bullying the tiny Ward.
MOTM without a doubt.

We have to remember international football is nowhere near as good as the Championship.Ain't that right Jim.

When the initial long ball comes down it looks as though he fouls the other player. I wonder if that would have been allowed if this wasn't a friendly.

in the handbag swinging world of international football a lot of referees would have blown up,although the guy last night was quick at flashing cards in a friendly.

Hi QPRmeath

I picked up the cost from here

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conor_Washington

On 19 January 2016, Washington joined Queens Park Rangers on a three-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee[6] that was reported to be between £2.5m and £3m.[7] On 23 January 2016, Washington made his Queens Park Rangers debut replacing Junior Hoilett with seven minutes remaining in their 1—1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.[8]

Pleasing to see that it was Jan Oblak the expensive young Atletico Madrid keeper he wrong-footed with that finish.

There's not really a lot to say about Washington and us so far. I would have liked to see him play more consistently but presumably JFH has his reasons for keeping him in check. He certainly hasn't looked out of his depth when he has appeared though. I'm confident he'll prove an astute acquisition.

Incidentally I read recently that Brian McDermott the Reading manager rates Washington very highly and was bitterly disappointed to have lost out on him to us.

Well pleased for him, he is an out and out goalscorer and he couples it with hard graft - looking forward to him getting better and better with us.
