You'd hit the pod and all the little red sods would fill the screen, if you had no nukes left, you were doomed.
Really difficult, my brother had a tactic of carrying one man to protect him. I'm not sure it ever did him any good. 10p a game down 'Fred's' in Bexhill. Seems a life time ago.

That screenshot has filled me with nostalgia, Toast.
Elite was so classy - even the box just seemed to ooze quality! One of my most vivid memories about it was constantly crashing when trying to dock - there'd be this dull crash-thud noise signalling utter catastrophe. Once you were better at it you could get a docking computer that just glided you in while playing the Blue Danube while you sat there with a big smug, spotty grin on your face - the height of fcuking luxury. :)
Classic stuff.
I'm so glad you said that! I was pretty young when I played this, and my only memories are of it being insanely involved and detailed, and that I never once was able to dock my ship - which was always devastating having spent what felt like hours getting into the game!

Yeah, trying to spin the ship and get the right angle to dock was a right pain, the docking computer was always the first thing I bought once I had the credits. But once you got loaded up with more powerful lasers, bigger cargo bay, missiles etc it was awesome.
Ah... so that's how you did it! Could have done with knowing this 25 years ago!

Anyone Remember Combat School? Used to cause a Joystick graveyard that game. One particular level was jumping the assault course followed by the monkey bars. Used to take two of you to complete it as by the time you got to the monkey bars, you were too knackered to continue so your mate would have to take over.

Well done sir, I'll browse through that later.

Oh I remember Combat School very well. My issue with it was the final mission. It was shit as f**k. You spent all this time at firing ranges (at least 3 of the levels were firing ones) and then you went into a hostage situation unarmed and got killed immediately!

When I first left home in 1988 I bought a zx off a mate just to play football manager, you always started in division 4 and played Rochdale first. I moan at my kids for playing Xbox for too long but I once lost a weekend to football manager.

LOL ..When I discovered that you could play Medal of Honour online against other bods I was lost to the world for a couple of years. My middle and youngest kids only recognised the back of my head.

Lets slow this down and and go back to the 70's..Remember this little beauty.Lemans was a stock item in any funfair's arcade tent. The sound was brilliant , steering wheel needed some serious spinning tho..
And 80s.....spent 2 weeks on a Cornish holiday playing this in a Mevagissey chip shop. Subsidised by learning the fruit machine reels to make the most of 10 nudges.....cherry, orange, bell, jpm

My local had this beauty. Get down the wing cross it ,nailed on goal..
I played a load of that in the Weatherspoons pub on Putney High St. I think it also had that bug/feature where if you lumped it up in the air from just outside the box it would always go in. I'd a friend who kept doing it leading to the constant spillage of cheap beer via outraged shovage.

There used to be a small newsagents on the upper Richmond rd in shene which used to have 5 arcade machines, Altered Beast and Golden Axe being my particular favs. The old guy working there used to sell you cigarettes ,great when your 13. Its closed down now .
