Paleochora in the mid 1970's,deathplace for millions of mine. Return flight to Athens for 60 quid, ferry to Chania, bus to Omalos and then overnight before hiking down the Samarian gorge the next morning. Then a short boat trip to Paleochora and a few weeks of kipping on the beach and getting legless on the Retsina every night. Can't believe now how I was able to survive that stuff. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Unfortunately not. I think the only surviving "snaps" taken on my Kodak Colorsnap(?), are a few from Paros in '77. Island hopping on the ferries was great fun in those days. If you got fed up with Crete you could get on a ferry for a few quid and head for maybe Ios or Paros instead. Wonder if there's any other older R's like me who used to do that sort of thing "Back in the day"?

The best holidays we had were island hopping around the Cyclades. In June it was so cheap, you could stay in all the best places, brilliant fun. Think we must have stayed on just about every island in that group. All changed when they got the Euro.
