Best film by genre: horror 09:36 - Jun 7 with 7759 viewsAgedR

Off the back of Discodroid's worst of thread, I thought I'd start a best by genre thread.

I'll start with the baton: horror

Mr Friedkin you crazy man. Saw in the cinema in my 20s for the first time, having read the book and knowing the head turners (sorry) and it still gave me the willies.

The Thing. No question.

Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

Gone right off horrors but loved them as a kid/teen. Liked the Nightmare on Elm street films.
But yeah The Thing was good..

Wouldn't call that horror. More a thriller and suspense. Nothing goes right for the good guys for 99% of the show and then an unsuspecting finale, the good guys win and we all live happily ever after.

There aint half been some clever bastards.

'from beyond ' hp lovecraft madness (mid eighties kinky bloodbath, and very weird)

not really horror but 'the cube' very unsettling..

the original 'thing is imperious..john carpenter was shit hot then.

i thought angel heart and blue velvet were very unnerving, but not really horror i suppose.

from the old skool...'theatre of blood', 'the abdonable dr phibes' and 'witchfinder general'

Is Psycho a horror? if so, it's by far the best.
Otherwise it's The Shining.

Bare bones.

Huh... I wrote the original story that was adapted as the film, Event Horizon. I also wrote another that got adapted as the film, Bad Santa. My two claims to fame. That and being an R!

Don't get scared much - went to the movies once to see the Exorcist and remember bursting out laughing at Linda Blair's revolving bonce.

For me The Wicker Man wins hands down.

But is it horror?

Is for me.

Not many better delivered lines than Edward Woodward's, "oh God, oh Jesus Christ", real terror.

And then there's the Britt Ekland scene of course

The 2004 Dawn Of The Dead was pretty good as zombie flicks go.Giving the Zoms a bit of pace transformed things dramatically.

No substitute for pace innit.

The Mist's ending is hands down the most downbeat ending I've ever seen, utterly marvelous. Frank Darabont changed the ending from the Stephen King book it's adapted from and even King later confessed that the movie version ending was better than his!

I like a bit of Japanese horror, anyone remember Audition (Odishon)?

Yes, I saw a documentary once when they interviewed the local girl who obliged for that shot!

Didn't really care too much for horror myself but the inclusion of Ingrid Pitt and others just about made it worth while.

And of course...
