Vincenti 12:54 - Feb 19 with 4125 views | YouTubeDale | What does the team do in training? In the first half the ball gets punted up to Vincenti on the right. Very good play so far. He wins the header, as he usually does, and the ball goes forwards. There is no Dale player to receive it. Second half, and Vincenti is picked out at the back post 3 times. He wins the header as usual, and guess what??? There is no Dale player to receive it in a VERY dangerous goal-mouth area where we could easily have scored, not one, but MORE than one goal. If I can see it then why can't professional footballers/ management see it. The game is very, very simple at times and therefore over-complicated by our good selves. Easy pickings, surely. Leaving aside the "what does the team do in training" issue - YTD raises a fair point, which deserves more than the stock response of "we're 4th" What can be improved upon should be.

Making space to receive the ball at throw ins. Time after time, full backs have no-one to throw to and just throw down the line and hope we outjump the opposition.

Agree totally, many times with this formation we play you find Hogan isolated and as good as he is he also cant chase his own flick ons either,I wouldnt mind seeing PV playing much closer to Hogan as in a front 2,and some pace either side.We have the talent in the squad to rip teams apart as proven, just feel at times we are far too negative and respectful of the opposition.
Vincenti on 15:20 - Feb 19 with 3815 views | TheViewFromRowZ | I get what the OP is saying, so many times we are not anticipating the flick on from Vincenti, he wins so many arial battles, but we don't seem to make the runs.

Agree 100% but the 'what does the team do in training' question has surely been answered enough times this season. I used to hear rubbish like that when someone like Barrow was the manager.

Yes, of course the team is getting a lot of things right and I am very pleased with our position and I always shout encouragement. But we should always be looking at ways we could improve because we can always get even better. Hilly won't be happy with all aspects of our game I am sure. But when I see simple things going wrong and a simple solution then I do question what they do in training. Lillis's distribution has gone a bit wayward recently. The ball being hoofed too often straight to the opposing keeper. He went on to spill the ball to the scorer, but could he have caught it, or put it over the bar??? Raff had time to cross the ball a number of times but failed when he took a few more touches and the defender got the better of him. Hogan getting caught offside again by not timing his runs. I know we will cover these in training but I really wonder whether the Vincenti stuff is pursued enough. [Post edited 19 Feb 2014 18:02]

Whilst not being a big fan of Josh, there isnt a keeper in the country who'd have caught the initial shot,he did very well to get such a strong hand to it and better still palm it away from the goal,as so many times this season we dont react to the second ball and got caught cold by their forward who just smashed it home! Hill has shown time and again that he attends to issues that crop up during games to the best of his and the players ability. And we are talking about div 4 players at the end of the day. He also often talks about the need to improve and progress in his interviews. Quite how Lillis was supposed to put that save over the bar would defy the laws of physics, however.

I'm not sure if this thread is a serious one??? If it is, then wow. Unreal.

Maybe the only time the ball is played long to Vincenti for him to head it down is during the game? I don't imagine Hilly does much of it in training as its not the way he wants to play.

There is always a call for a long ball during games, many teams have come and closed us down and nullified Lund and Dicker when he was here and Hendo to a degree, and we as a team are void of any ideas or a plan B.Last night due to the above our only play maker at times was young Jack a centre half, surely thats a problem?

It's a specific tactic we've used down the years. COG, Joe Thompson even Kallum Higginbotham to good effect at Rotherham in the 4-2 - we might play proper football but we've never been averse to sending it long to the wing to start building an attack.

Dawson to O'Grady, 4 or 5 times a match.

I've never seen such an effective pass used, as you say, in such amounts every single match.

It was very effective as O'Grady had the immense skill to bring the ball down without breaking stride. Vincente is a slightly different arguement as he generally challenges to head the ball on - very difficult on Tuesday with Hogan being the only forward to aim the knock down to.

Vincenti is a good signing and is important in both penalty boxes. He sometimes looks ungainly but he is without doubt a important member of squad.

Absolutely - Vincenti provides good cover for the fullback, presses high (put in loads of blocks today), offers the long out ball from the keeper & spent large parts of the 2nd half today winning the high ball in our box. Yes, ungainly at times, but he changes games Rotherham, Chesterfield (to name 2). However I have to say Allen & Cavanagh were the stars today; Cavanagh covering & winning tackles as ever but releasing the ball quicker than usual - set the tempo the whole 12 kept for 95 mins. That's a very good side truly beaten but if they'd not scuffed that toe-in in the first half... a very different story - the FFGs were on our side today
