New official for Oxford visit – Referee

QPR have a first ever appointment with Durham’s Adam Herczeg on Wednesday night as they face a crunch relegation six pointer at home to Oxford.

Referee >>> Adam Herczeg (Durham), second Championship game of his career and first this season.

Assistants >>> James Wilson (Cheshire) and George Byrne (Suffolk)

Fourth Official >>> Alex Chilowicz (New Jersey), saxophonist with TV, film and Broadway credits, refereed in the MLS from 2017 to 2023, in the EFL since 2023 and is now a VAR official in the Prem.

History

First QPR appointment.

Stats

Adam Herczeg finished his time in non-league in grand style at the end of the 2021/22 season, overseeing the remarkable Wrexham 4-5 Grimsby play-off game at The Racecourse Ground.

He’s since done two years in Leagues One and Two, showing 83 yellows and two reds in 26 games (3.19) in 2022/23, and 108 yellows (3.17) and three reds across 34 games in 2023/24.

Last season saw him take charge of Huddersfield 1-3 Coventry at the end of March as his first Championship fixture. Once again this season he’s been entirely based in the bottom two leagues but after 47 yellows (3.61) and no reds in 13 games he will now step back up to the Championship for a second time.

He’s refereed Oxford twice before – a 2-1 home League One win against Charlton last August, and a 2-0 defeat at Burton Albion the season before.
