Southampton Interested In Liverpool Midfielder

There are still more than 5 hours before the transfer window opens, but the rumour mill is starting to turn and the latest one from 2023's rumour provider of choice Fabrizio Romano is that Saints are looking to shop at Anfield in January.

insidefootball.com are reporting that Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano is claiming that Southampton are interest in signing Liverpool's Fabio Carvalho.

Carvalho joined RB Leipzig on a season long loan in the summer, but has found game time in Germany limited to just 9 appearances in the Bundesliga, all but 1 off the bench and although the German club are keen to keep the 21 year old for the remainder of the season, the player's agent persuaded both Liverpool & RB Leipzig to terminate the loan now.

The report goes on to say that Jurgen Klopp does not have Carvalho in his plans for the rest of the season and is keen to get him out on loan and get game time.

This being the case it is said that whoever he joins, Liverpool will seek assurances that he will get game time, they see no point in a repeat of the situation at Leipzig.

Indeed that may be a stumbling block, given that Takumi Minamino who joined us in the January window of 2021 despite scoring on his debut at St James Park as shown it the headline picture and a wonder goal against Chelsea as above failed to get as much time on the pitch as Liverpool hoped, hence reassurances would be wanted.

How much substance is in this rumour will become clear in time, however Fabrizio Romano has gained a reputation for having his finger on the pulse with regard to transfer, not all of them come to fruition, but most have a fair amount of substance.
