Tottenham Wing Back Linked With Southampton

Saints are reported to be interested in a deal to take a right wing back from Tottenham Hotspur, but it a double edged sword as it would surely mean that Kyle Walker Peters would be leaving the club.

Reports on the72.co.uk say that Saints are interested in a deal with Spurs to take Djed Spence on a season long loan.

The 23 year old right sided player joined Spurs last summer from Middlesbrough for around £15-20 million depending on which report your believe, but failing to break into the Spurs first team squad on a regular basis, 4 sub appearances from the bench being his only Premier League action, plus a couple of cup run outs, he was loaned to Rennes in France for the second half of the season.

He started well at Rennes, but a knee injury ruled him out for the last part of the season.

However he does have extensive experience, not only at Middlesbrough where he made 63 appearances, but also at Nottingham Forest on loan where he played 39 times in their promotion winning season from the Championship, his form leading to Spurs buying him.

Now it seems that Saints & Tottenham are talking about a loan deal for the player who turned 23 just over a week ago.

It is said that Spurs see St Mary's as the ideal place to send him out on loan, as they did with Kyle Walker Peters 3 1/2 years ago, they see it as ideal due to the possession based game played under Russell Martin.

If Spence arrives then it would be ironic as it would surely mean that Kyle Walker Peters himself will have left the club, although Spence is also able to play as an out and out right winger as he did with Forest in around half the games he played, so playing both he and KWP might also be a good option.
