Jan Bednarek Recalled To Southampton

Saints have announced that they have recalled central defender back from his loan spell at Aston Villa, his talent is undoubted, but will his attitude have changed under a new manager at St Mary's

Any port in a storm, although I have to say I thought Jan Bednarek burned his bridges a little with his comments when he joined Aston Villa on loan back in August, talk of joining a big club etc now leave him having to come back with egg on his face and eat a little humble pie on his return to the club.

For their part Villa were looking to get shot of him, he barely played under either Steve Gerrard or new manager Unai Emery and his time at Villa almost cost him a trip to Quatar for the World Cup.

Even that was more holiday than work, his only action was 4 minutes as a sub in a game where Poland were already finished by then,

Now he is back at St Mary's to bolster our defence, back in August he started the first two league games and saw 6 goals go into our net before being hauled off after 70 minutes in the 2nd second against Leeds United.

It cannot be denied he had been a good servant to the club before this season, but something changed in the summer, he had developed an attitude problem and he seemed bitter when he left, the hope is that the issues he had where with Ralph Hasenhuttl and that now he can make a new start under Nathan Jones.

The Saints press release was short and sweet.

"Defender Jan Bednarek has been recalled from his loan spell at Aston Villa, the club can confirm.

The 26-year-old Poland international moved to Villa Park in the summer on a temporary deal, but he has now returned to provide additional experience and depth to Nathan Jones’s squad for the remainder of the season.

Bednarek has made 153 Saints appearances since joining from Lech Poznan in 2017 and the centre-back will now be looking to add to that total."
