Southampton Chasing 6ft 7inch Austrian "Peter Crouch"

According to reports in Austria, Saints are one of several clubs from the Premier League including Brighton & Tottenham Hotspur interested in signing a player who has been likened to ex Saints striker Peter Crouch.

The German football media are reporting that a plethora of English clubs are expressing interest in SaÅ¡a Kalajdžić, an Austrian currently plying his trade with VfB Stuttgart, the 24 year old is entering the last year of his contract and according to German media outlet BIld, who claim the Bundesliga side ‘need transfer income’ and quote a fee of around €25m as being the starting price.

At current exchange rates that equates to a little under £22 million and although at the top end of the budget, a fee that Saints could well be prepared to pay.

Bild also say that Bayern Munich are interested and have met with the players agent, but that talks have now stalled and that there is Premier League interest, it also says that should Bayern restart talks to sign Kalajdžić, then he would favour a move to join them over English clubs.

This could be a clue as to how concrete the England rumours are, it seems to smack of an Agent being involved somewhere, Bayern Munich seem to be balking somewhere either on transfer fee or wages and the agent could be looking to get them back round the table by enhancing his client's popularity with Premier League clubs.

Certainly Saints could be looking for another striker after the departure of loanee Armando Broja and the 6ft 7 Kalajdžić because of his two-meter stature and relatively slender build, has drawn comparisons with the former Saints striker Peter Crouch, who similarly to the Austrian functioned as an out-and-out target man.
