Southampton Weekend Transfer Update !

What's been happening around Saints in the transfer market this weekend ? find out all the latest news and gossip in our weekend roundup, with Angus Gunn looking set to be the first deal of the Saints transfer window, but with a new twist to the saga.

Angus Gunn looked set to join Norwich City after a few was agreed with the Canaries said to be £5 million and then add ons that could in theory at least see Saints recoup most of the £12 million originally paid to Manchester City to buy the keeper.

But Leeds United now seem to have come into the frame and look set to try and hijack the deal, however the move might not appeal to Gunn himself given not only his connections to Norwich but the fact he is far more likely to be first choice at Carrow Road than Elland Road.

Another big question is whether Takumi Minamino will return to Southampton, The Japanese FA has confirmed that the player is being withdrawn from their World Cup qualifiers squad to face Kyrgyzstan on the 15th of June and Yahoo! News Japan reports that he has been withdrawn to sort his future out at Liverpool.

The first question will be whether he has a future at Anfield and then that will decide whether any move will be permanent or another loan.

Saints are said to be interested in bringing Minamino back to St Mary's.

A new name linked is Matt Grimes of Swansea City, however he is primarily a central midfielder and you have to question whether Saints name being in the frame is no more than agent talk due to our plethora of talent in that area of the field.

The club are also said to be still in talks to sign Romain Perraud from Stad Brest to replace Ryan Bertrand and Ralph Hasenhuttl is said to be looking to revamp his defence during the summer.

But if Perraud doesn't sign then other options are also being looked at including Brandon Williams of Manchester United.

In defence it seems that Jannik Vestergaard could have played his last game for the club, he has just a year left on his contract and although he has been offered a new deal, it hasn't been accepted and you have the feeling that the ideal situation would be that Vestergaard has a good Euros campaign and that they could get somewhere around £20 million for the Dane, that would be a good boost to a limited transfer kitty.

The news on Danny Ings has not changed and the rumour mill is suggesting that Ings is happy to stay at the club and will sign a new deal as long as one of the truly big clubs don't come in for him. West Ham are believed to have made tentative moves to both the player and the club, but Ings is said to not be interested in a move to the Hammers, if he goes than it has to be to a club that is very much a step up from Saints and although they are in the Europa League next season, West Ham do not offer much more of a chance of glory than staying at Southampton.

James Ward Prowse's rumoured move to Aston Villa seems to have also gone quiet and again it seems that if JWP is to move then it would need to be to a club that has a real chance of winning something, I was also very pleased to receive an e mail from James Ward Prowse himself thanking me for renewing my season ticket, a very personal touch from the midfielder although surprisingly he hasn't answered my reply back to him yet.

But as always this is the phoney transfer window, no one moves before July 1st when they get their annual loyalty bonus and then loyalty strangely goes straight out of the window.
