The Marc Bircham show — Podcast

Marc Bircham turns out to be peak podcast material on Open All R’s this week, finishing with a flourish with a hilarious recollection of that day at Stoke.

Bircham is back in the UK from his coaching gig in the US, and was at Fulham on Saturday so there’s analysis of a remarkable 2-1 win at the Cottage.

But the discussion really cracks on when it comes to Bircham’s QPR playing career — the Rangers fan turned down moves to the Premier League to sign for the R’s in the Second Division and was an integral part of Ian Holloway’s side that restored pride, and second tier status. Bircham scored seven goals in 167 QPR appearances from 2002 to 2007.

The final ten minutes are about the best the Podcast has ever been as Bircham recalls the famous 1-0 win at Stoke, with hilarious anecdotes about Matthew Rose’s involvement in a half time brawl, Ian Holloway bursting into the Stoke dressing room and, funniest of all…

"After we’ve taken the lead we’re going back to the halfway line, Ade Akinbiyi comes up and says ‘If you win, I’ll fucking kill you’. And I was like ‘Oh no, every chance now Ade with you up front because you’re never going to score’.”

The last half hour in particular, a must listen for QPR fans.
