Ron Vlaar To Join Saints Is Done Deal

According to the Daily Star former Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar is about to be announced as signing for Southampton Football Club.

Saints were of course linked with Vlaar in the summer of 2014 but could not persuade Aston Villa to do business so turned their attentions elsewhere, they were again linked this summer after the Dutch defender departed Villa Park after his contract ran out, however after having a knee operation that looked set to keep him out to the new year any chance of him joining Saints now looked scuppered at least till January.

But the Daily Star is now saying that is not the case and Vlaar could be joining Saints, the on line edition of the paper is quoting Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli who has tweeted.

"Vlaar to Southampton done deal: 2 years contract. Will be announced Wednesday. #SaintsFC."

The article also claims that Vlaar will be fit again in two months, meaning he could be making his Saints debut by the start of November if that turns out to be true.

Where this sits in Saints pursuit of Virgil Van Dijk is still to be answered.
