LFW Travel Guides — Wembley Stadium

QPR are at Wembley for the first time in 28 years next Saturday, and if you’re planning to join them here’s a few hints and tips about how to get there, where to drink and where to park.

Ground Name: Wembley Stadium

Address: Empire Way, Wembley, London, HA9 0WS

Main Telephone No: 0844 980 8001

By Car

The stadium is visible and well signposted from the end of the M1 and M40, and sits just off the A406 North Circular. Turn right at the end of the M1 onto the A406 (North Circular/West Wembley). Continue along the A406 for a couple of miles and then after crossing a metal suspended bridge, you will pass a McDonalds on your left. At the traffic lights with an Ikea Store on one corner bear left onto Drury Way. Keeping the Ikea store on your right go straight across the next two roundabouts. You will pass a Tesco petrol station on your right and then at the traffic lights turn left into Grand Central Avenue (B4557). The stadium is at the end of this road.

Parking

A bloody nightmare at the stadium itself, and in the surrounding streets there are numerous residents only schemes. You can book a space at the ground in advance at the official Wembley Parking website which is currently advertising good availability — at £30 a car. Nice.
Probably the best bet is to park near one of the outlying tube stations and get the train in.

Train and Tube

There are five separate ways of getting to Wembley Stadium by rail. The most obvious, and popular, is to Wembley Park on the Metropolitan Line from Liverpool Street, Faringdon, Kings Cross, Euston Square and Baker Street. The Jubilee Line also runs through there from central London, but stops a lot more en route. The stadium is very obviously straight in front of you up Wembley Way as you exit from Wembley Park tube and trains are queued up waiting for you afterwards — although expect some delay.

Alternatively, get one of the special trains on the Chiltern Line from Marylebone to Wembley Stadium with a journey time of nine minutes. Extra service going directly to the stadium run before and after the match. Tickets cost a fiver, Oyster Cards are valid.
Overground trains from Euston to Watford call at Wembley Central with a journey time of 21 minutes and a fare of £5.70. The Bakerloo Line also goes from central London and Paddington to Wembley Central. To get to Wembley from Wembley Central, turn right out of the station and follow the High Road up past St Joseph’s Church and then turn left. Again, it should be fairly obvious.

All these options are available to supporters coming from out of town. The Chiltern Line calls at Wycombe on its way into town, the Bakerloo Line comes in from Harrow and Wealdstone, the Jubilee Line from Stanmore, and the Metropolitan Line from Chesham, Amersham and Uxbridge.

The following tube lines have closures next weekend:

- The District Line is closed between Aldgate East and Upminster due to Crossrail work at Whitechapel. The Hammersmith and City Line is also closed between Moorgate and Barking. Replacement bus services operate.

- There is no Overground service from Highbury and Islington and New Cross, New Cross Gate, or Clapham Junction. Also no trains between Sydenham and Crystal Palace.

On foot

Following the tradition of the club’s previous three visits to Wembley, some QPR fans have arranged a walk to the national stadium on Saturday morning. QPR fan Dan Rutherfood and friends have plotted a route of 5.6 miles leaving Loftus Rod at 10.00 and aiming to arrive at Wembley around noon, giving plenty of time to enjoy the pre-match atmosphere.
