Olympic Torch To Visit St Mary's

As announced on this site a few months ago the Olympic Torch will be making an appearance during the Memorial Cup tournament at St Mary's

Saints have just announced the full details of the Memorial Cup tournament to be held on Saturday July 14th, the two other teams in the format which will replicate last summer's event are Arsenal & Rangers, with the Olympic Torch making an appearance in the stadium as part of its tour of Britain.

Last years even which was poorly attended will be boosted by not only a decent number of Arsenal supporters but Rangers can be counted upon to bring several thousand to the party as well, it will be interesting to see how Saints will cope with this with effectively two away sections needing to be created and where they will situate the second one.

The tournament is of course being held so early due to the Olympic Torch, in normal circumstances Saints would be looking to play games such as these far nearer the start of the season tht the five weeks prior than this is, they are sure to have other fixtures nearer the season with a strong rumour that Ajax could be one of them in a repeat of the first game played at the ground after the arrival of Markus Liebherr.

All in all though I would say that the line up is far better than last year and that it should stir interest up in Saints fans as well as others who might like to combine football with a once in a lifetime chance to see the Olympic Torch.
