Yannick Bolasie EXCLUSIVE interview on Swansea Independent
Sunday, 17th Dec 2023 16:34 by Keith Haynes

This evening we have the privilege of a heartwarming tribute to the Swans Indy and of course The Brain Tumour Charity. Yannick Bolasie, currently on a short term contract with the Swans has sat down and given his time to give us and you an exclusive interview.

The first thing you feel when talking with Yannick is a warmth and generosity coupled with a genuine desire to be a part of something whilst he is at the Swans. So let’s crack on and learn a few things about the Swans paceman who has brought a lot of hope to the supporters of Swansea City.

”I chose Swansea city as it’s a club I’ve always admired due to their style of play, they have always played an attacking brand of football that I know would suit me. The previous manager & assistant were a big factor also - as from the conversations I had with them I felt like they really believed in me and what I could bring to the group and the club as a whole. The fans are a big factor also as previously whenever I’ve played here I felt they really do show up and support their guys“

The contact that brought Yannick to Swansea came from Sporting Director Paul Watson, and it has to be said the vision of then head coach Michael Duff impressed him. “There was plenty of talks between myself, the manager, assistant and also head of recruitment, this was something that was on the table for a while. Yeah I can feel the excitement and that’s something I missed when I was abroad, for me a big reason coming back to play in the UK was I missed the crowds and the die hard support match days bring”

On the departure of Michael Duff and Martin Paterson so soon after Yannick joined the club the Frenchman was simplistic in his response to the departure. “I want to wish him well, he is a great guy who I have a lot of respect for, not only because he really wanted me to come here but the love and support he showed me for the short time I was here with him”

The real thing that drives Yannick is his family and enjoying what he can offer the Swans overall. He is at a stage in his career where a player like Yannick has multiple experiences and experience to pass on to the players within the squad. “I think my energy and day to day work methods are what I would love to be able to pass on to the younger members. We have some very talented players here so it’s all about just making yourself available and making it a comfortable environment where we make a real togetherness . My family are a huge part of my life, I missed not having my kids with me when I was abroad but now being closer to home they can visit me and watch me play which is a real blessing for me” The Swans have a special character within their midst, surely now is the best time to utilise that talent ?

A straight forward question, what is it like for you living in and around Swansea?
“Yeah from what I’ve seen of Swansea so far, it’s absolutely lovely…my wife and kids really have taken too it, for me the people are so friendly and just very warm hearted which is great. Most of the time I’m with my manager Vick, we have had a friendship/working relationship for a long time”
On that point, we do have numerous contacts within the football industry at the Indy, but we have to say Vick has been astonishingly helpful this past few weeks.
