Southgate is the main reason that we have not won a 'big' tournament, his team selections & tactics have been bad and made many schoolboy errors. His record only looks good because of the quality of the opponents we have played and the decent squad that we have.....we should have done better, hence why he has gone (thankfully). Carsley, who knows yet and is an unknown, but he hasn't played much yet, and as you say, if we don't attack against them teams then we are in right trouble. |

I believe that our drop in form is that we have 3 key players out and the replacements are finding Championship life tough. I would be shocked if Dunne does not move to RB for the Derby game and an experienced CB comes in at LCB to play next to Cook. That will give make our back four a more formidable defence. Hopefully Colback will play in midfield with Field and Frey will be fit to play up top. That gives us a very good nucleus of a team. Add three more, presumably Dembele as one of them and a wide player (Smyth imho) to the team leaving one of the other summer signings to take the last place. Good team to get at least a point. |

The first two goals were down to poor play from Hull short corner routines, it happened a lot in the first half. They also got a bit of luck with both goals but Anderson (& others) need to do better defending the boxes and making important tackles. As for all players coming back to defend at corners.....there are 'pros & cons' either way, not a right or wrong thing. |

Not done enough in the England shirt......he has however not had much of a chance really thanks to the very poor previous England Manager.. |

Really!!!!! Who cares what his name is??? He needs to up his game more importantly. |

Not 100% sure what you 'actually' mean. Just because he is an 'old one' doesn't mean that he isn't still an influential midfielder in this team & league. What I can say is Colback is a very important part of the midfield but not only that, he is very important to this inexperienced team & squad. Get the three players back and watch for the team improvements.....we will be a far better all round team. [Post edited 2 Oct 12:45]

We need JCS back a left sided CB, move Dunne back to RB. The RB is not currently good enough. We need Colback back into CM to bring back our combat & experience into the midfield. We need Chair back wide right midfield. Three of our best and most influential players missing is always going to be a concern. The squad players need to 'up their game'. Talk what you like about tactics, and I am not saying we have it 100% right in that area, but it is the quality of the players performances over the past few games is the main problem. |

Why should supporters know the 'inner workings' of the Club??? Pleased about the new contracts but do they mean much nowadays?? |

Good news if he has signed a new contract........decent CB. |
| Forum Reply | Never a straight Red Card at 14:15 30 Sep 2024
Not sure it was 'never a red card'.....a tight call for the ref - plenty to argue for the sending off though. |
| Forum Reply | Smyth's goal at 14:13 30 Sep 2024
Smyth did the hard part in getting ahead of the defender but failed to get it on target. Disappointing for him and all of us because an early goal helps the Team. Tight call re the Varone sending off, It happens. Another tight call with Smyth in the second half. Could have been a foul. |

I do not want Colback to change.....we got enough passive midfielders who show very little or no aggression (& much, much more). If fit MC will pick him and quite rightly so, I would want him next to me if I was playing in the Team or was the Manager. I find it very wrong that Varane gets a red and then many posters want to talk about 'Ginger'.....its a shame because he is our best overall midfielder - the team and we miss him when he doesn't play. Sadly many posters have never played the game to any level so do not understand the importance of Colback to 'this' team.,, they just want to look at his negitievs and, of course, he has negatives and why he is playing for us. Hope he is fit for the Hull game.....it will give us a much better chance of winning the game. |
| Forum Reply | What we know so far.... at 09:05 29 Sep 2024
Most of the 'new boys' are not playing as well as I thought they would. I am not going into detail, it would take far too long, but they all need to 'step up' their game. Whether they can is another thing. Yesterday (& Millwall) showed how important, and I know it will go against the grain with many posters, Jack Colback is to the midfield & team. He is very important indeed, going forward & defending. Posters should actually watch Ginger, he is very busy in midfield and does a hell of a lot of work off the ball as well as when he has the ball & not just his negatives. Can you imagine if he get sent off like Varane did yesterday - it would be meltdown here!! I hope he will be fit for the Hull game and we will have a much bigger chance of winning the game. Chair not playing also effects our performances massively despite many posters moaning about him. He is another one of our much better players. Then JCS, a 'proper' left footed LB.....another big miss. So in summary, and as I posted on the match thread prior to the game - loosing 3 of our 'much' better players will be a 'big ask' for the Team. Saying that, until the second half yesterday I thought we were relatively comfortable.....the sending off was the 'game changer'. Posters should not be too disappointed, we played a team whom are near the top of the league and matched them quite easily in the first half. |

Very disappointing team indeed......to get anything out of this game we will need to play above expectations. Some 'big players' missing from the line up - at least 3 or 4 players missing whom would start. It is not all over though, we still got some good lads in the Team. |

Good news......chair is a big asset to the team and club. |

Perhaps Norf, but I can be biased on occasions but always fair . Thing is, I could not see the bloke who scored go 'mental' nor any other Watford players doing something similar. Not sure we would react in the same way if we thought that we had scored against Man City. |

| Forum Reply | Pep on the EFL Cup at 18:34 25 Sep 2024
I am not saying that there is some consistency lacking...... |
| Forum Reply | Pep on the EFL Cup at 18:29 25 Sep 2024
Maybe but the ref obviously thought that it was a foul and the only issue that I could see was with his arm.......harsh decision maybe, what was the Watford reaction? I didn't see much from the player that slotted. |
| Forum Reply | Pep on the EFL Cup at 18:10 25 Sep 2024
Difficult angle to judge but I would suggest that he used his arm to give him more force and the ref didn't like it. |
