They do exactly this. But you still need a high level of back-to-goal talent to begin with. Again, it’s back to how good you are with this, naturally? What is your base level of ability back to goal? Do you score highly in this attribute as a kid?

The championship/ prem is an elite level sport. Furlong and Gallen likely had a back to goal game in an elite group to begin with. Or perhaps their touch was so good (talent), but the strength wasn’t there (physical), initially.

You can work with that because their natural talent is so high from the get go. But the physical is not, yet. (See Alfie Tuck). What you don’t want it is the other way around. (See Sinclair) , that’s far harder to pull off.

It’s nature v nurture. You can’t polish a turd.

Or maybe you can, but it’s still a turd!

Agree, he’ll be given a chance versus others than don’t have the electric pace. But it’s a busted flush. A striker at this level requires upwards of at least 10+ core attributes. Not meaning to be harsh, but SA has 1 of 10. That’s 10%. And a huge gap to fill.

And most of those attributes, contrary to popular belief by fans, cannot be trained (at least to the level required). It’s not normal to go from Sunday league touch, to championship-level touch, with training. Even on a daily basis. If that were the case, all sprinters would be footballers, and they are not for good reason.

I think because the allure of Armstrong is what reels you in. You witness the explosive pace, and the subsequent threat of playing on the shoulder and running in behind. And you think, wow, what potential.

But that’s a surface level analysis. Can he do the basics? Can he control the football? Does he have game intelligence? Does he have striker smarts? Does he know when to run, when to hold? Can he beat a man with a trick? Can he finish? And so on. Can any of this be trained? Can some of it? All of it? None of it?

However, the punchline is that all of these attributes - and your base starting level - determine your likelihood of “making it at a given standard”. And the higher the league - the higher the attribute(s) required. The lower your starting level, the less likelihood you have of raising it to the levels required.

How you assess needed attributes and how you score those attributes, is a matter of perspective. And how you predict the level can be enhanced to the degree needed, is again a matter of perspective. That’s the difference between a good scout and an average one. What they see, versus what you do not.

Practical & Simplified Example: If I score Armstrong at 3/10. And think he can get to 5/10. (Jumping 2 levels is reasonable via training and practice). But another scout scores him at 5/10 and thinks he can also jump 2 levels to 7/10. We have a different opinion. I assess he won’t make it, you assess he will.

Time will tell, but he’s a more complete striker than Armstrong, who has pace and that’s about it. I watched sinclair in our youth set up and first posted about him on here. The report reads as it did then - rapid and promising but no touch or back to goal game. That hasn’t changed. Which Bristol City fans are finding out, much to their dislike.

Whilst Lloyd also lacks touch and technique, he retains the ball more often, even if it is in an unorthodox fashion. Whereas playing into Armstrong was like hitting a pin ball machine. That counts for a lot - and if Lloyd can hold it up, whilst also running the channels in behind, he’ll have a better career than Sinclair. And whilst not showing it yet for the first team, he also a far better finisher based on seeing him in u21s. Again, Sinclair significantly lacks in that department.

I don’t disagree. Perhaps I wasn’t clear. What I meant to say, is I believe his touch and technique are at a higher starting level than that of Armstrong. But yes, probably the weakest part of his game. But Armstrong was like 3/10 for me. And may reach 5/10.

Lloyd is at 5/10 for me, starting at a higher base, and may reach 7/10, which will be needed to make it at this level. He’s got a lot more promise for me vis a vis. Equally pacy, but better baseline touch (that is improving), can run with the ball (versus SA kick and run), and can crash into defenders and hold the ball up (something SA could not do). Shows promise as a lone number 9.

Unlike Armstrong, he has a touch and technique to work with, that is improving game on game. He is already a real handful with his pace and power. But his dribbling ability at full pelt is what differentiates him. Puts himself about as well, and showing signs of being able to lead the line as a sole #9. Got real potential if can bring it all together in the next couple of seasons.

Agree. But sadly our chief executive loves a power play.

Kolli is a hard working, down to earth, extremely talented footballer. So much nonsense written about his attitude. The lad will let his football do the talking given the opportunities.

Indeed. I have been raving about him on here since he was 16. Our youth system is poor, but he is a rarity, and he was always the stand-out talent. Not only is he the real deal, and just needs opportunities and game time, but he has been with us since 8 years old and used to sit in the Ellerslie on match days. Truly one of our own. And I hope that contract is now signed, hence why he has now been bought back into the fold.

It is also quite clear, as it has been from the summer, that Marti did not get the profile or type of player(s) he requested as key to his style of play.

Notably missing in action from a coach who plays possession football:
- no ball playing CM recruited, who is absolutely key in terms of the ability to play out from the back and dictate and control a game ( a Faurlin type)
- No ball playing full backs recruited, who must be able to do the same, play out, in tight spaces, and progress us up the pitch. (We only have Paal who can do that, 1 of 4 full backs required, and he was already at the club)

And then we have the striker situation. Only 2 strikers. And 1 of which cannot play up top on his own. Another area of the team not fit for purpose. So it’s not hard to see where Marti is coming from.

You’ve been duped and conned like the owners were.

Retexo was a 2-man band, consisting of Nourry and his mate Charles Gould.

Nourry, the self styled “Lionel Messi of Football Business” via his media / journalist website, gave himself the grandiose title of Managing Partner for Europe.

More precisely, he was Managing Partner of none. So, as good at it sounds on first glance, no he nowhere near “Partner” level status like at at a Big 4 firm like Deloitte, PWC etc.

He is barely out of uni and prior to QPR - where he has been given the keys to everything - had not even been on a formal payroll, drawing a full-time wage.

The club can resolve this situation in the short term by doing the following:

- remove Nourry from the club
- reinstate Hoos as temporary CEO (who is still in the background)
- hire a real, experienced and previously successful DOF by Xmas.

Go into the Jan window with an experienced leadership team that know what they are doing.

And give us half a chance.

Just to reinforce a number of your excellent points here.

He’s never been on a payroll in his fledgling career before QPR. And never had a single person reporting into him.

But he’s now on a 6-figure salary minimum. And has an entire organisation reporting into him.

Our self-styled “Lionel Messi of Football Business”, is literally the lead character in the Catch Me If You Can film played by Leonardo Dicaprio. At what point does all of this become fraudulent?

No point interviewing either about what they’ve been up to. All you’ll get is spin and more spin.

Do you remember “The Lionel Messi of business”

Where do you think that phrase came from, knowing what you now know….

Edit: bang on with with film reference “Catch me if you can”, had the exact same discussion last night

The DOF (Nourry) shapes the overall transfer and recruitment strategy, evaluates priorities for squad composition, identifies specific regions and markets to shop in, and identifies age demographics and experience levels needed in the squad.

Whilst the head of recruitment (Belk) carries out the transfer strategy operationally, working within the DOFs strategic framework.

In practical language: The Nourry direction and decision to;
- Shift from UK markets (Ireland, Scotland, England, league 1, 2, and premier league 2) and shop in European markets only
- Bring in all 10 x new players with no championship experience between them
- Identify players exclusively through data and statistics
- Squad composition: Sell dykes and only go into the season with 2 strikers, loan Larkeche and only go into the season with 1 left back, not sign a play-making CM needed for Marti ball, etc, not sign Isaac Hayden and instead chose Ashby last minute etc etc
- agree transfer fees, wages, contract lengths

Retexo is one of the many spider webs.

Some Nourry highlights:
- On joining: “my 11 years in football.” (He was 26, allegedly working in football from 15 years old…alarm bells…)
- On Dembele: “we made it a permanent deal after he hit the required number of appearances” (6 appearances)
- On Contract Lengths “Sheffield United and Portsmouth don’t disclose contract lengths either” (not true)
- On Kolli: “not playing because of competition ahead of him” (year left on contract and negotiations not going well)

It’s as if Nourry thinks he can get away with saying things that are simply not true, because he won’t be found out. Perhaps because it worked for him in his career before QPR, as no one called him out on it?

But deceit is not a good trait. And football is a VERY public business, people talk. Especially how Nourry goes about his business… it’s fair to say those who have met the man don’t have a good word to say about him.

As for Retexo, it was a 2-man band recruitment consultancy, spun as a global AI and data analytics firm. A version of events that has more curves than a mountain road.

We are in real trouble as a club and the owners need to front up and make urgent changes.
