Brilliant, thanks guys, booked flights so now need to find a good place to stay. Its for my son and his g/f. They want to see the sights and party the night through(something young people do apparently) so wanted somewhere they can get back to easily at 4AM in the morning!!!

Jersey side looks a good option but not sure about them getting back in the early hours. In London its not a problem but New York being strangers just have a few causes for concern

NY is very safe. You cannot turn into a block without seeing some law enforcement officials.

Novotel 5th Avenue was decent and very reasonable when I stayed.

NY is safer than London I wandered around Brookyln on my own perfectly safe. Having spent 2 weeks in Jo'berg though, everywhere feels safe after that :)

The Larchmont, W11 St, is as cheap as you'll find - not exactly midtown, but pretty close to everything. It's very basic but clean and in a nice, quiet leafy street.

Check DBA in East Village - fab pub with a fine selection of 'real' beer

thanks all now booked up which I had to do to pronto as flight costs rising daily.

Booked inthe Empire so thanks for that tip.

I liked the idea of a B & B but my son was not comfortable being in someones home....with his g/f and if I carry on researching it I won't get any work done...the trip not his girlfriend
