So he's either had a falling out with those in the boardroom or he lost respect if his fellow teammates in the changing room.

Can’t really say anything else. Better he gave no reasons at all.

Removing the captaincy was absolutely necessary but he had been in the job so long I he probably took it personally. That is my reading of the situation. "The team lost the will to compete" reflected very badly in the captain and manager. One or both had to go.

Left in 1976 and made a good life well away Yiu have to make decisions with the head I used to be rather homesick for a few years but soon got over it Sentimentality is always clinging though and I still get. Little hiraeth de temps en temps

I was born and raised in Mumbles, I left there 32 years ago and I wouldn't move back, not even with a lottery win. Grimes life has changed, she has this forced on her. If she doesn't like it then she needs to act, that or put up with it.

We lived on Newton Road and then Castle Avenue. It was a great place to grow up. I spent many an hour playing snooker in the Social Club on Western lane. Then aged 25 my life changed forever and I left Mumbles. Some things we have no control over and maybe that's what's happened to Grimes, something at the club happened and he HAD to leave. As I've already said, good luck Grimesy but I'm glad you're gone.

I think the opposite. If we were doing well and he wasn’t leaving any a good motivational captain whom led by example I’d think it harsh. The reality is that he’s been the most anonymous captain I’ve ever seen at the club with a seemingly blue eyed compliant boy complex for every manager who has taken the reins. We’ve all seen those kinds of people in our workplace- it’s so unhealthy. We didn’t do well yesterday but let’s hope a couple of new players can list the mood. His wife says they wanted to stay - I theorised that it was the epitome of a comfort zone for him and that was reflected on the pitch - do just enough to get by and enjoy his semi retirement. Thankfully someone who matters has called him out for it and he’s had a tantrum, thrown his toys out and left. I predict Coventry fans will see an initial spurt of energy but after a while he’ll be back to his usual. If he starts tearing up trees there we’ve all been taken for a ride by him. I think the first scenario is the most likely though.

The trick is to make a good life where you want to live. In my case I got a better job here than I had had while living away. True, there was a compromise in that the organisation here was (and is) less prestigious, but the grade was higher - so not really a "graveyard of ambition" scenario brought about by sentimentality. I guess the best Mrs Grimes can hope for if she really loves Swansea is a return in a few years. Matt can probably afford a house in both places.

Thought the same. Bit different from Monks wife who slagged Swansea off, a place that made her husband a very rich man which no doubt she benefited from.

Matt Grimes wife on 14:31 - Feb 2 with 207 views | BarryTownSwam | I sympathise with a footballers family being dragged across the country at short notice if hubby gets a transfer. No footballer wishes to disrupt family life unless he has to, so I’m sure something has happened behind the scenes to piss Matt off to such an extent he’s had no option to move. However, living/working ‘away from home’ is reality for many lads who earn to provide a good living for their families. I have plenty of mates who live apart from young families in order to earn a living - they hate it but grin and bear it because they have to. Won’t be for ever (as it won’t be for Matt) but it’s needs must. And they don’t earn anywhere near what Matt is earning. I live 22 miles from Coventry and travel to/from South Wales for most home matches. It is quite feasible The Family Grimes can live in Swansea while Matt makes a few car trips a week to/from Coventry. If I leave work near Coventry at 2pm on a midweek match day I’m usually having an all day breakfast in Baglan at 4:30pm. I’d imagine Matt is out of training no later than I’m leaving work. Stay locally a few days a week - lots of lovely hotels in the area - and do the road trip whenever needed. Am I being harsh? Or unsympathetic? [Post edited 2 Feb 14:36]

That's the way I see it, many footballers live away from their families and go home once or twice a week with partners/family coming the other way occasionally. They earn a fortune compared to a working man who often has to make similar sacrifices. Try traveling on the early morning Monday train to London, there are many who don't come back until Friday, I bet they wish they were on 30K a week.

I agree. They could easily remain in Swansea, if she didn’t like it here it would be no problem. Also less upheaval for the children who, depending on their ages, could be settled in local schools with many friends.
