His agent will get him a Head & Shoulders commercial by dawn. I always think of Russell Martin as a Musical Youth manager. "Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side, then pass it again and again and again and again and again..." In all seriousness though the difference between managers like Martin and Cifuentes is that Martin just wants to play football in a certain way despite the personnel he has and when it doesn't work he just persists relentlessly despite the player's shortcomings. Cifuentes has wanted to play football another way but has learnt that you can't do that if you don't have the personnel. In which case this is season 2 of ditching those ideals and making us hard to beat. At the end of the day you can have all the possession you want and pass everyone to death as Martin tries to do or you can say, okay we're not as good as I imagine we are so we'll just be well organised and as Marti has learn't the phrase this week... grind out results. Surely he won’t get a better job: the difference between him and Vincent Kompany is that the latter was a well known world class player whereas the former was an average Championship player that no continental clubs will have heard of. He gets to spend the whole of Christmas with Lucy Pinder though so that will be of some comfort for him.

I saw some of that 2nd half today where Saints were already 0-5 down. What I saw they were passing it long. Perhaps it was just to late, or his bosses didn't care what sort of football he had them playing as long as they won enough to stay up and they didn't.

This Championship is probably the worst I have seen it and it’s hard to see where that can change.

Russell Martin on 23:13 - Dec 15 by Logman | Possibly, but what is the alternative ? Long balls forward down the throats of defenders or onto the heads of strikers who can't get anyone in behind because of the off-side rule. I don't think playing it out from the back is boring, per se. In fact, it has me on the edge of my seat when we do it. Playing it across the back yes, but out from the back, no. In my opinion. |
Width, pace and crosses. Watch The Big Match Revisited, when football was fast and exciting.

Agreed. Not to mention the divide between championship teams with parachute payments now and idiot scum down here. I mean, every year the teams that finish 11th-21st are the same sort, never challenging and always just surviving. I hope Blackburn go the distance just to spice it up a little.

Bristol City a case in point. Never in threat of relegation, never challenging for the play offs either.

I think perhaps the reason why the quality is so poor may be down to the fact that the top Premier League clubs now hoover up such an enormous quantity of players just to keep in reserve on the bench or play in tin pot European competitions. I think a very good example is Dewsbury-Hall, who was outstanding in Leicester’s promotion season last year but was bought by Chelsea simply to play in the Europa Conference League. In years gone by, players like him and the many like him would have been performing every week in the Championship and lifting the quality of the games.

I just did and noticed that in 2012 she appeared in a film titled “Strippers versus Werewolves” so it’s been added to my Christmas list.

Strippers versus Werewolves - whatever competition that fixture is I’m hoping there‘s extra time and replays.
